Just thinking about Alan Cumming as The Great Gazoo kinda bums me out that we haven't gotten a Josie and the Pussycats episode yet. That's a guaranteed We Love Movies.

They've reminisced about that movie before, saying how nothing in it exists today except Target and how Carson Daly knew his time was up the moment 9/11 happened

I know. It's a perfect encapsulation of 2001. The guy who's "just gotta buy a six-pack of Zima!" might be one of my favorite jokes for how layered it is.

I appreciate the sheer laziness of them just putting rock on the end of everything. Fits the effort that went into the movie

The RPO pateron episode is so good guys . So good . I was promised by my friends that the movie is not as annoying as the trailers made it look, and they lied, it was boring headache inducing nonsense - so this episode is cathartic .

Even so, there's not much you can do with RP0 because the majority of it is just "hey, it's that thing you recognize from nerd pop culture".

I'm not all the way through the ep yet; does the movie also have the thing where the winner of the contest also gets utter control of the Oasis, along with the "wipe the entire system no backsies" button? Because that's one of the most infuriating things to me in the book; the virtual pre-recorded ghost of Halliday tells (presumably) whoever won that he "trusts them" with the button, despite their only qualification to get there being "knew the most 80's pop culture stuff".

I remember checking out some RP1 reviews when the movie first came out and even from the groups that I like there's always one guy that read the book and is like, "yeah the book is great" and I'm like wait what

In the sense that the majority of Willy Wonka is just "hey it's the candy you recognize from your childhood", sure.

That Tim Burton remake could have used more of those sugary soda pop candies, or those bottle caps.

The send up Conor Lastowka and Mike Nelson give the book RP1 on their podcast is the only other bit of RP1 podcasting I'd recommend.

I highly doubt the audience in 1971 was nostalgic for everlasting gobstoppers, a candy first made in 1971.

I'd heard it before but the WHM team of commentary made it so much better/worse. Honestly, I'd go up a tier for them to read r/incel posts and give their reaction. It'd be like IMDB +.

My favorite thing about it is how hard he's trying to be sensitive and thoughtful while simultaneously tearing down people whose only crime is having a porn persona he dislikes.

"I don't want some disgusting dumb bitch that's normally in porn. I value women so I want a girl who really thinks, you know? I want her to say 'Han Shot First' before she has sex strictly for my personal enjoyment"
