OK, I'll leave it since you all seem passionate enough about it. But feel free to post in the main one too. It's usually fine!

Mods wear sweat pants and white sneakers and listen to trendy (ARGH!) hardcore and so-called "death" metal bands.

^That was an awesome show, except for it running really late. Cool venue, too. It's always great to see a band who is awesome right now playing their current music, rather than just nostalgia shows.

are there any bands like young in the way (the thrashy/crossover + black metal sound, not the horrible sex stuff) that are worth checking out?

Depends how raw you can tolerate your black metal/punk, but Ritual Knife (https://ritual-knife.bandcamp.com/album/hate-invocation) and Ilmestys (https://strangematerial.bandcamp.com/album/the-noose-hangs-from-heaven) are extremely worth checking out. Bone Awl might also hit the spot.

so Wiegedood was amazing last night. They played to a crowd of maybe 20 people, but they were totally mesmerizing. Something happened with Gilles guitar at one point, I think he broke a string, cause he immediately ran off and grabbed another guitar and tuned it and was back to crushing it in under a minute.. was the most pro recovery to a stage fuckup I've ever seen. definitely go see them and give them your money

Speaking of Dutch black metal it looks like Fluisteraars, Turia, and Solar Temple will all have new releases out near the end of the month. No samples yet but given Haeresis Noviomagi's track record they should all be great.

This interview with Ayloss from Spectral Lore took a fuckin' crazy turn towards the end. The interviewer asks some hamhanded question about the #metoo movement and false rape accusations. Ayloss's response is kind of incredible:Ayloss posted:Let’s see some facts before delving into the specifics. Since you mentioned America, according to the US Department of Justice, out of 1000 rapes, 310 are reported to the police, 57 reports lead to an arrest, 11 cases get referred to prosecutors, 7 cases will lead to a felony conviction, 6 rapists will be incarcerated. That means that out of 1000 committed rapes, 994 perpetrators walk free. Very strange interview. The next question is about NSBM bands having their shows canceled and whatnot, and Ayloss gives another thoughtful answer. I don't know why those questions were asked, let alone included in the published interview. They make the interviewer and the magazine seem really loving clueless and lovely.

apophenium posted:They make the interviewer and the magazine seem really loving clueless and lovely. The way that metoo question rambles around from America to English women and ends with a hasty backpedal is really hard to interpret as anything but the interviewer throwing out a pet talking point. Ditto the NS one. Thankfully Ayloss loving buries the interviewer on both.
