They aren't 100% necessary I guess and everything seems to be a compromise in one way or another. Check my prior posts here. I made a really nice one with a butcher block top from Ikea and I love it mwah mwah mwah)

I just had some trestles made up for about $90AU and bought a 2100x900x30mm panel from Bunnings for about the same. https://imgur.com/a/FVeufuH x2 + https://www.bunnings.com.au/selex-900-x-30-x-2100mm-laminated-clear-pine-sheet_p0290007 Because the trestles are 3 legged I don't find the inner legs get in the way at all. The panel is so loving thick and heavy there's no swaying or flex. BurgerQuest fucked around with this message at 01:07 on Aug 23, 2018 |

I don’t mean that to be snarky. If I recall correctly, the Galant has a metal frame that connects all of the legs and then the tabletop rests on top of that. Assuming that the replacement top isn’t made of 500 lbs of stone you will probably be fine attaching a new tabletop in place of the old one.

The adjustable ones that let you turn a desk into a drawing table also seem pretty cool but I can’t personally vouch for their strength.

I moved. Still living with hand-me-down furniture except for the trash can and desk lamp but at least I'm not sitting on a jizz chair now. I also upgraded from using a shipping box as a laptop stand to a Roost/Nexstand knockoff. Glass tabletops transmit vibrations surprisingly well. I can feel the bass from my Bluetooth speaker (hidden behind the laptop) when I'm typing on the keyboard.

Should I value adjustable leg height? 740mm is the standard and I'm not sure if I would like adjustability or be indifferent about it.

Any one recommend a good desk chair? I'd like a high back mesh chair for my home office, with fold up arms, available on Amazon?

The chair thread is a better place to ask but it depends a lot on your budget. Anything less than ~$500 is generally trash with few exceptions. Comfort is a personal thing so you should always check it out in a show room first.

I found a 50 year old Cramer Airflow and it's the most comfortable office chair I've ever owned. The vinyl has rips in it, so I'll just reupholster it and pass it down to my future grandchildren decades from now. Looks like this except it's green vinyl. If my house was on fire I wouldn't rush in to save it only because normal fire could never destroy the metal frame. They're pretty rare and I felt like the Dutch getting Manhattan for some beads when I bought this and another Cramer without arms for $200. I mean, it's no Eames, but it will never break.

Just got my new desk delivered. The poor oldie for comparison: Thing was like a decade+ old and even then I purchased it second hand. Have also been in the ten-keyless club for a while. It owns and I will never go back. Rise up comrades and break free from the shackles of the numpad! (Although I had to learn vi keys to be able to play roguelikes which I didn't consider at the time and was a pita)

landgrabber posted:nice define did you buy it on newegg Struggling to interpret this typo ("define"?). If you're asking where the desk is from, it's from a place aimed at commercial/office buildings called Hurdleys. I'm not sure what happened, but I don't think it's not available anymore? This was the link (gillies executive desk) which just 404's now. It's a place that provides stuff "to-order" so you can choose custom dimensions, colors, finishing etc. I couldn't find anything I liked from the normal consumer desk places over here (NZ) and Ikea stuff is imported in small quantities from "boutique" type places and real expensive (defeating the point imo).
