ATTENTHUN THITIZENTH

Birds of prey, more than any other animal, seem equal parts delighted and mystified by the magical power of scritches. It's very charming.

I like the version with sound because those are just bigger versions of the noises my cockatiel used to make when he was a baby and I'd rub his head.

Raptor handling workshop was awesome. Got to hold these two: Barred Owl and Kestrel. Plus got to fly a Turkey Vulture, and hang out with a baby Barred and tons of others :)

That is awesome. What type of training do you need to do to enroll?

Perhaps I shouldn't, as my first thought was "I would so pet those birds"

I like the birb units best. I love the ones that look like big fat puffballs with no business being able to fly. Randaconda’s gif of the fat hen badumphing across someone’s carport was also good.

Can we do something to recognize the person with the twig avatar and the fat sack of birb photos? Maybe a special tag or icon or something? He or she deserves some kind of recognition for works benefitting humanity.

Thank you, but the praise does not belong at my feet. My roommate Tony is the artist behind the amazing birb photographs. I am merely delivering his product. If you wish to show your thanks and appreciation, then please donate to the go fund me set up when his birding camera and lens were stolen. Find it here.

Also, here's Wednesday's bird. It is not a puffball.

His reaction looks like this is a wild owl or something. He looks wicked nervous, maybe he's just a friend of the owner and not familiar with it? Idk, I'm going to choose to believe it's a wild owl because that is precious.

No training. It's a one day event people can sign up for at our local Audubon center. You go in, learn about the care of the birds, clean their mews, handle them, and get to know the way they take care of them.

And yeah, first thing they say is no petting lol.

Is that a fantail from New Zealand??? They are just the best little birds to meet in the forest - they come right up to you to see what you're doing, then flash their tails at you just to show off. I remember looking up at a really steep, forested cliff-face at dusk and seeing lots and lots of mysterious little white flashes. Took me about 5 minutes and a lot of squinting to work out that they were fantails strutting their stuff for the ladies :3:

This is actually one of the better summaries I've seen. It's a quirky but perfectly innocuous phenomenon at its core, but then The Internet glommed onto it and made it loving weird.

I've been occasionally having the sensation since I was a kid, I just never thought about it much. It starts as a kind of gentle, electric pinching feeling in the back of my head and neck, spreading as a sort of goosebump-y tingling across my scalp. If you've ever tried one of those scalp massage wire thingies, it's kinda like that but without the feeling of physical contact. It's somehow very soothing and calming.

Then at some point some people made it A Thing and folk started making videos that attempt to trigger the sensation, but they're a crapshoot at best and really loving creepy at worst.

Here's a bird, supposedly, though it just looks like some leaves to me
