There's no way to replicate this on emulator yet as far as I'm aware, and it's not like Cadash is sufficiently open-ended that the 2x2 setup would let you do things/require things like having one group split off and open up shortcuts for the other group or anything. But it's still a neat footnote to what was at the time a pretty unique feature.

I'm kind of floored that they bothered with something so strange

He who fights too long against dragons becomes a dragon himself
Geez, uploaded this (the BB vid anyway) back in January. :sweatdrop: Well, I'm in a new place and finally getting situated, so I'm trying to get things back to "normal." Since I have so much Dragon's Dogma content to do I'll probably start uploading those in pairs, alternating with one of something else. Since it's been almost a year, the DDDA vids are mildly edited (cutting out some back-tracking, bumping NPC volume, etc.) and the Souls stuff is pretty much as-is (as-was?).

Bloodborne #07 - Starved for Victory
Pretty much the entire video is me taking on the Blood-Starved Beast. Did you know you're supposed to use backstabs and not parries? Me either! I actually do OK at landing the visceral attacks, but the problems were 1) this was the end of a 3+ hour stream, so I was getting tired and my reflexes were down, and 2) I wasn't specced for Skill so I shouldn't have been fishing for parries in the first place. I really don't think I make for a good blind LPer, heh.

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen Part 22 - Seaside Sidequests
The editing made for a pretty dense Dark Arisen video, by comparison: 2 sidequests and some giant monster fights just in this first part alone!

Bomberman received an official main-series entry in 2017 to the surprise of everybody (it's Konami) but the applause of few (it's mediocre). Outside of being a vehicle for the exact same multiplayer the franchise has had since the second game, its design now formally credited to Ctrl+V, SBR is also a revival of the SNES Super Bomberman subseries and loose remake of SB2.
R finds the multicolored, multi-one-dimensionally-characterized Bombermen facing the evil overlord Buggler and his lackeys The Five Dastardly Bombers. This time however, there are animated comic-bookish cutscenes and voice acting, which manage to bring an odd, innocent charm with their vibrant but low-budget art direction and B-grade voice acting. However, what could have been a cute-but-standard Bomberman game gets badly dragged down by some truly obnoxious boss design decisions. This may be a casual LP, but you'll thank me for still editing the video.
After all, if anyone was going to LP this game, I guess it was going to be me.

This LP is edited down from a full playthrough I streamed on August 28 as thanks to my Patreon patrons for a month of support. Most of the LP is solo, except for my friend JigglyJacob popping into the Discord from late in Part 1 until early in Part 4. My computer's power shut off midway through Part 3, losing the first chunk of the recording, so I had to use the YouTube stream; as such the video and audio quality are lower than my usual standards until then.

I feel it's actually way better than every HUDSON entry by a mile, and was genuinely surprised at the great presentation and design being so much more forgiving! I was nearly positive it was goin' to be bad, but it rocked instead and had way more personality than any of the previous games

Let's Play "InuYasha: Feudal Combat"

Feudal Combat is an attempt to bring another 3D anime fighting game into an over-saturated market full of 3D anime fighting games. It tries to distinguish itself from the competition by allowing you to fight alongside an AI partner and introducing an "affinity" system that affects how well your partner co-operates with you. The affinity mechanics technically work perfectly well, and they're a great idea, but they're brought down because the game is just way too easy. The Story Modes can be breezed through without any real mental effort or strategy. We're going to be playing through the whole thing anyway, because I still think it's good casual fun.

It's a little bizarre seeing someone take issue with that boss in particular. It's a pretty natural evolution of bosses from previous Bomberman titles. I've died against it plenty, but I wouldn't really chalk it up to bad boss design, and the continue system is very forgiving.

He plays for the dreamers that forgot how to dream, and the lovers that forgot how to love.
On Silver's platforming being overly easy - a game I want to bring up that did multiple characters visiting levels better, is Woody Woodpecker: Escape from Buzz Buzzard Park. That game had 3 characters who's stories got progressively harder, although the latter two also had fewer levels, but the levels were rejiggered for the character's unique gimmicks. Woody was standard platforming, single jump, nothing fancy, just get good at controlling him. Knothead had a kind of surge jump that sent her flying horizontally at a set distance. Splinter had a double jump.

The levels that they shared were remixed, not only to be harder via more obstacles and more enemies, but also to fit that character's moveset. For example:
code:
Woody: Knothead: Splinter:

        _ _ _
    _ _
_ _ _
Woody has three basic steps to jump up, Knothead has a zig zag tailored to the length of her special jump, and Splinter cuts out the middle man. They also have different paths, like in Woody's first level he needs to go on the ledges to the left and right to activate buttons to turn of lasers. Knothead has no barring her way and the side ledges are just for collectibles/lives.

The game also remixes obstacles in cute ways to make optional paths for caches of lives, like after getting used to the mechanic where you peck your way up a wooden beam, the game gives you another beam later on with a laser along the bottom - this teaches you that you can start those beams in midair, which becomes a good way to extend the jumps in later levels where some platforms have a wooden edge that you need to peck your way up because you will otherwise fall short.

The controls in the game are not good at all, but the level design is really good. I may do that game for this thread later.

I blanked hard yesterday, so just have the last two parts together so I don't blank tomorrow.

The game closes out with essentially the same drawn-out fight twice, and then a post-game planet was added in as DLC where you kill as many cute creatures as possible.
I wouldn't call the game a scream. It had the makings of a perfectly good Bomberman story mode if they only tightened the whole thing up and made the player waste way less time. I think I'll stick with the old Super Bombermans or Saturn Bomberman.

Not every game needs to be LP'd. Not every game needs to be shown off or explored as a curiosity. Some games, like this one, are more than welcome to be left in the dustbin of history.

it's not like i'm playing it to gently caress with people, i'm trying to offer actual insightful commentary into the design with my incredibly calm tone and specifically avoiding bringing up any tragedies or injured/dead persons

like, yes i hate the NRA too and i think the beliefs of their spokespeople are disgusting, but this game came out well over a decade ago and you need to chill the gently caress out

Well I'll give you one thing, this is a hell of a hill to die on. How on earth does one avoid bringing up tragedies or the repugnant views of the NRA when you're playing a game that was literally designed to put out a positive word for them? There's no rule against LPing games that are in bad taste (it is a bit in bad taste). I don't think this is the kind of game worth LPing just for archival purposes in today's environment but it's your choice to do it- I watched it and it's as inoffensive as you say it is. Were you to do something like Super Columbine Massacre RPG, then there would be a problem imo. With that said, there is a rule against jumping down each others' throats, so let's try not to do that, friends. It's easy to understand why crow's impassioned plea is so impassioned, but sniping at each other isn't very conducive to a discussion about whether a game should be LPed or not.

And, also, I think the game would definitely be worth LPing if you used it as an opportunity to make a statement about the NRA, instead of just playing it for the aforementioned archival reasons. I think the problem is that at the moment it kinda feels like you're playing it just because it's a weird curio, which it is, but again it's just kinda in bad taste to do that by itself.

Oh, whoa! Check out the Viewing Globe, shorty!
It's a game about shooting unmoving plastic targets and it gives safety tips about gun handling during loading screen. There are hundreds of FPSes where one murders fictional representations of real people that died in real wars. Being concerned about a videogame that no longer profits the NRA, makes no political statements about gun ownership/control, and contains no violence toward other humans.. that just seems ridiculous to me. It's an utterly harmless gallery-shooter that happens to have the name of a god-awful group of people stamped on it.

By "good intentions", I meant the game was meant to be designed well, I wasn't speaking about political or philosophical reasons or anything.

And yes, I am playing the game because it is a weird curiosity. It is an odd thing that the NRA released a game on the PS2 featuring no distinguishing characteristics, and I do intend to archive it.

I don't understand this tunnel-vision modern society seems to have with tragedies. The things the NRA says are awful and disgusting, and school shootings are terrifying and horrible. No one is arguing that. But this game is in no way harming or killing anyone, and neither was buying it from a used game store. It came out in 2006, the NRA is making no money from it. I thought it was weird, so I am LPing it.

Also I do apologize for being aggressive earlier.

The point is that NRA is a politically charged topic and there are plenty of weird/unknown gun games that you could broach the topic better. Not that that really matters, as you yourself have little to no interest in this game, have no interest in shooting or firearms in general, and have no interest to debate the topic of the NRA.

Granted, I will applaud your determination to approach this as neutrally as your tone of voice, but it only begs the question that, as there ARE alternatives and today is literally the anniversary to a mass shooting, which makes your attempts at playing this down seriously tone deaf, why are you prepared to die on this particular hill? Are the adsense bucks or patreon dollars that valuable?

And poo poo, yeah, there's a tip here or two, but, from what I listened to in your video(s), you didn't even bring attention to it. There's no safety to expand upon, there's no trick or moral to learn from. As I said more than once in my video, I'm playing the game to archive it and its design. That's what I do, that's my thing. I obviously respect you, or I'd just be ignoring this, but I don't understand what you're even trying to say.
