It's cool that it tried something so wildly different because everything after it was "uh here's pyramid head cos he's in the best silent hill so this is sppooky now :downs:"

e: also most of the later games set in SH the dudes could like really easily leave cos they actually have nothing compelling them to stay there like Maria for James in 2

Didn’t SH4 start as a non-Silent Hill game. I thought I read that somewhere

It started as The Room.

The first few legit Playstation emulators had me wanting to play Silent Hill in full. Epsxe made it happen for me. The ashes, the smoke, the sheer "gently caress is 'dis?"

This is a common misconception but SH4 was actually in development alongside SH3 as a different style of game but it was always meant to be a Silent Hill title. That’s why it came out not that long after 3 did.

I think it was meant to be a SH side game but they added the 4 later on

Time to start up a new RE4 file, but this time on pro mode. I'm looking forward to re-learning the standard resident evil tank control scheme on my Xbox One controller

I set up the REmake randomizer this weekend so it's ready to go after I finish SH4 and it seems loving awesome. There's also a Door Randomizer option in it that seems to powerful.

just watching door randomizer gives me a headache. I think you'd basically need to keep some graph paper or something just to remember that the main hall leads to the lab entrance leads to the residence lounge.

i got frustrated with a certain lategame encounter and put on baby mode, and had a much better time with the game just exploring a creepy facility and learning its backstory with nothing trying to set me back 10 minutes lol. its very nice that it had that option

This game sucks. It isn't even scary any more, it's just tedious upkeep you have to keep doing to keep your apartment clean, and all the enemies look stupid and now I'm being chased by a Matrix guy who dual wields pistols through levels where I have walk everywhere or else my escort can't keep up.

4 has a cool dreamlike vibe but it's a checklist of how not to make a game. I wish it was in better hands because they had the right idea not retreading everything the first three games did.

This October my spooky games are SOMA and Until Dawn. I'm finishing Blood & Wine which has some good spooky quests so far

on the other hand i keep thinking of silent hill as a series that actually does the 1, 2 & 4 joke

my goal this october is to get a working version somehow of Fatal Frame 1 because it's impossible for it to function on an emulator.

the hard part is finding a copy of the game itself. my copy was tragically tossed out a while back and when I checked to replace it at the time it was 100 dollars, it didn't have a very wide print compared to 2 and 3 so the discs were kinda rare and i forgot about it. Amazon claims to have copies for 40 dollars so I think I'll try that this month and cross my fingers for working ps2's at the thrift shop or pawn store

i still have my wii so maybe I'll try to find a copy of crimson butterfly for that. I've never played the newest one but I didn't hear too much about it. if I can actually get a copy of fatal frame 1 it'll be a spooky halloween

PS2s aren't so hard to find, but I run into more OG Xboxes at thrift stores. Some of the Fatal Frame games are real pricy though.

It's available digitally on PSN if you have a PS3. That's how I bought 1 and 2 but I've been too scared to play them
