I just watched the Heaven's Feel movie but didn't really understand what was happening. Had to read some wiki stuff afterwards. I guess it's designed for people who have played the visual novel.

Now that I think about it owns that the op has like twenty paragraphs about f/go but zero about how to get into this franchise.

I am pretty sure that for most people now FGO is how one gets into the franchise.

Best way to get into the franchise is the same as it's been for years. Pirate the VN, install the fan translation stuff, fast forward through the porn bits.

While Fate/Stay Night has three separate timelines they do have an "order" to them (Fate, UBW, HF). They assume knowledge from previous routes and also have a thematic progression. Maybe you can just jump into the UBW anime though.

The issue with trying to watch the Fate route first is that it looks so bad compared to everything ufotable has done.

I mean the animation was worse, being a peak 2000s budget anime, but the original fate was the best of the animated tv shows.

The first one is the floating suicide girls the second is the friendship between Shiki and SHIKI and boy before the car accident.

UBW anime and HF movie both assume you have access to the smartphone port of FSN RN, which IIRC has the Fate route free. That's why they haven't really bothered (re)adapting it.

Heavens Feel is definitely built on knowing what happened in at least one of the other routes. The scene with Archer and Shirou on the school roof is built on the idea that you are well aware that Archer wants to mentally and physically kill Shirou in an attempt to write himself out of existence but he is well aware that something is going seriously wrong in the current war and so is going to focus on his duties as a counter guardian first before trying to fulfill his own wish.

Has there ever been any kind of statement from Type-Moon about why the VN don't have a proper English release? Cuz y'know... those happen now. For visual novels. Particularly for famous ones. Especially if they're not pornographic! (Sometimes if they're pornographic) Hell, didn't the Muv Luv kickstarter hit 500% of it's funding goals? And that's without an incredibly popular mobile game and multiple successful anime series. OnimaruXLR fucked around with this message at 19:41 on Oct 2, 2018 |

Albert mentioned at the AWA Panel they could absolutely do it, but they have no one on staff who is free enough to do it. His team is busy with FGO and the CEO of Aniplex doesn't seem to be into hiring an entirely new staff for the sake of localizing it.

FSN is longer than War and Peace and most people who are interested have already read the fan translation. Athough it's a shame because the current translation is pretty bad.
|
# ? Oct 2, 2018 19:55 |

It is not a matter of people who are interested having read the fan translation, there are plenty people out there who got in through FGO or other Fate media (Zero or UBW or even maybe the Deen stuff) who have no prior experience with the series that would definitely read the VN. There are plenty of people who have played the VN who would pay to have a professional localization done and would reread the VN especially if it was made accessible through legal means and in a more convenient way (IE The Phone or Vita Ports). People are always willing to dip back into something they loved or are familiar with and Fate has been a hot property for the past two years (Longer than that really, but these last two years have been an especial boom period) that a VN localization would absolutely make a profit.
|
# ? Oct 2, 2018 20:02 |
|
There are also pretty massive parts of the VN that could be cut with no impact on the story. It doesn't have to be longer than War and Peace, probably at most as long as Atlas Shrugged.

You best not mean all the cooking segments. And yeah, I'd pay for an official translation of FSN and happily reread through it to see just how badly done the Fanslation was

No I mean the endless re-explaining of magic mechanics. The cooking must stay.

If all the cooking segments are removed, it would be like fate zero pace. Fight night, fight night, it’s taiga, fight ni...

IIRC wasn’t the hurdle for the VN that they were demanding a ridiculous amount of money for the rights? Like, enough to turn people away even if they know it’ll be a hit?

That was never confirmed to be the reason and as I said, the Aniplex of America CEO has apparently stated it is definitely doable according to Albert Kao, they just don't have people that can do it.

I am going to say something that is almost treason, but for the HF movies, they do not care about the fate route, more that the movie is structured around knowing what happened in Zero and UBW, Fate route is kinda useless as an anime as it was a glorified tutorial and we already know who saber was in zero by that time line. We will see if this really holds any water next movie, as the first is just show casing that this is no normal war

It's really loving dumb that for a game with a profit margin like that they cam barely hire a team. Aniplex could probably shell out for some guys and relaunch the realta nua version on steam with like two weeks worth of fgo profits.

They probably could, but Aniplex is already a dumb company who wants to sell you all of KNK for 250 bucks in the US, so this kinda just adds to the pile.
