What you're describing is the West Wing. The show that has given decorum poisoning to an entire generation of america's political class.

So I have watched The (first four seasons of) West Wing a ton and I don't really see that. Sure it's not some super leftist show or anything but the characters usually try whatever tricks they can do to get the poo poo they want passed. The first major plot point of the series is Leo calling Bartlet out on getting to the White House on a leftist campaign only to ride to the center and sit.

I’ve only seen maybe one and a half episodes of Steven Universe, but based on what I’ve heard about the show isn’t “beat villains with the power of friendship and compassion” basically its overarching theme? Sure, it can seem a little cheesy from an adult’s perspective, but I think it’s an important message for kids to be exposed to.

A lot of media seems to fixate on narratives of hatred and revenge, and while this isn’t necessarily a problem (it’s still fiction, after all) it’s good to have an alternative; a story about understanding your enemies rather than just hating them. Kids can watch all sorts of shows if they want to see righteous heroes battle monstrous villains, but in the real world even the worst villain is still a human, and having stories that acknowledge that fact is a good thing.

It's an oversimplification of the show to say it's entirely "kill em with kindness" lessons, when some of the heavier arcs in the show deal with instances of hurting/being hurt by people you love. It utilizes it's serialized story to show the lasting effects and try to teach that emotional intelligence.

The show does have a villain problem where almost all tension is killed almost immediately after a villain's introduction, but I don't think the show is irresponsible in that depiction.

Is a good breakdown of how that show influenced a bunch of centrists. It's not a bad show, but its politics are pretty poisonous to the Left.

I have never actually watched the West Wing but having dumbass liberal friends sharing clips from it over and over to try to make their point and feel smug has made me hate it regardless. It may not as a show be responsible but it's fans are 100% the people who have ruined the left with liberalism.

They do have guillotines and something that is amiss from Omanyte's ordeal is that the episode where this is featured does also somewhat start to address the matters they're proposing. Hell a bit before the Human Zoo he gets himself on a similar situation by casting off a Ruby to the unknown deep space.

However, Om does have a point that class can sometimes supersede the other qualifiers on the general scheme of things. I know I've met a fair share of people from (Racial, Gender and Sexual Minority x) that campaigned and endorsed measures that would explicitly go after them (sometimes to the point of penalty of death) purely just to keep their own capital and clout.

e: oh my god what a stupid snype

The problem is it still lives in the lib world where people actually give a poo poo about debate. It's the icon of 'well by YOUR logic' when really when you pull that the right just calls you a cuck jew or whatever.

Like, the entire first episode involves a right wing expert getting hired by Bartlet because she 'kicked Toby's rear end' in a morning show, and she takes the job because despite opposing everything about Bartlet she just loves her country so drat much. It then goes on to reveal the various admin members have such noble pet projects such as 'Toby wants to cut social security TO SAVE IT' and poo poo.

Plus it just writes people terribly, it's a non-political person writing politics. Remember when someone confronts a gay GOP member about being in a party that actively wants him to die, and he just says 'you hate guns right? Well what if all you gun haters joined the NRA instead of fighting it, then you can change it from within'. Like, that's not how any of this works, but Sorkin clearly knows nothing about it so he just imagined one day 51% of the GOP could be gays who were just waiting to say 'ACTUALLY mr party head, we want to vote to say we SHOULDN'T kill gays'.

The Chapo Trap House podcast did a good episode on it, and they summed it up really great. It's like porn. It's ok to watch it, it's ok to enjoy it, but you really shouldn't watch it and think 'yea, this is how it SHOULD be' because it's not healthy.

what... how...? I never said Sugar or anyone involved with the show where Nazis. I am saying because the show was poorly thought out and full of anime bullshit it's very possible to see a reading that is pro fascistic or atleast sympathetic to it.
Shows like Naruto are guilty of this too, because they paint every villain as a person with noble intentions that simply lost there way.
it's a trend that's becoming more and more popular in adult entertainment where it's just as dumb but it's confounding to have a show made for children in this time in this point of history to tell them that people in power have good intentions so treat them with respect even if they mean you harm.

but they literally have never shown the villains as having 'noble intentions', even the redeemed bad guy character was shown as a victim of indoctrination as a low ranking member of the regime. In fact the diamond intentions have always been shown as very bad, it's near instantly established they destroy worlds for resources and completely ignore anyone saying 'maybe we can conserve things and actually wind up with a better system' out of spite and anger. You keep saying this poo poo but you're just weirdly making stuff up about a show for children to get angry.
