At first I was thinking it was just an decent Futurama rip off with some annoying "Oh I love this woman who doson't know I exist, and that's the greatest injustice!" but it ended up with one of the most insanely dark endings I've seen outside of anime.

Eh, animated shows take a long time to produce. I think the networks can afford to throw money at the issue, but now that it's on TBS and they've burned through their backlog, it's probably going to be like a year, year and a half between seasons.
