I knew they were gong to use Moby Dick as a code book as soon as he said they all had the same edition in the first episode.

Lot's of money in a camo contract. Australian navy camo has reflective strips in on it.

Ep 2 was fantastic, the naval battles are so good, and even better when they are improvising like that. Enjoying the military planning and all the strategic discussions about the invasion etc too

Binary Logic posted:This second episode is why. Naval tactics we don't get to see anywhere else. Yeah I was worried this season would have a slow start but nope glad I was wrong about that. They do seem to make odd minor technical errors post-S2 (the corvette was in front of them, facing to their port, but it looked like that shell flew in from due starboard?) but so long as they don't do anything as egregious as the season 3 finale again I don't care, it's close enough.

The opening missile got CIWS'ed and the torpedo was Eddy'ed () but at one point the corvette fired its deck gun and the shell hit the Nathan James from completely the wrong angle. I assume they're just giving the FX guys general instructions without somebody storyboarding who's at what angle in any given shot. It just sticks out way more given how much attention to detail they usually pay.

Oh right when it fired from in front but hit the James on the side. Yeah I guess their aim was a little off. Really that sort of thing is probably due to reused effects shots. They've got several generic shots of missile impacts and explosions etc. which they reuse obviously for practical and budget reasons

There's loads of re-used and generic externals, in S1 the heli appeared and disappeared at random. But who cares when you're going FLANK SPEED and firing your gun aimed by thumb?

Haven't watched episode 3 yet but I love this goofy show. Episode 2 doing the classic "I've been fighting this war too long. I'm going home tomorrow. Oh I'm dead." cliche was perfect. Also this thread needs something...

This loving show is so star trekian, in the best way. I liked that there was a minefield at sea to impede the enemy forces, and coincidentally, simultaneously a minefield on land that the good guys had to get through. Fortunately Danny has damned good eyesight.

As soon as they said "it was a shell" I guessed it was in fact an Iowa, then went "nah that'd be too insane", and nope they went there. Whatever genre this show counts as it's the best ever. I am legit hoping they wind up just stealing the thing and use that instead. Knowing this series it's going to somehow be a bootleg built off of the original blueprints. You'd think someone would have reported one being stolen. Kinda disappointed in the resolution to the virus thing though, even if the actual attack vector was way more clever than I was expecting.

I'm glad that the girlfriend was actually an enemy spy. It was very 24-esque and they made it so obvious that I thought they might be building it up just so they could swerve us and have it been some other random character. Thankfully it was nice simple storytelling and I even liked that they threw in some lines about "doing your duty" just to make it a bit colder.

someone in the writer's room wanted to film a long montage of a gunfight, plus 'murica actual getting yelled at for being a bad dad. they also wanted this set to cheesey as gently caress 'metal' music usually played over the ending credits of a japanese manga. everyone else agreed. that so loving rules.

The metal music represented the anger and rage of a teenage girl. Yes that juxtaposition of jungle combat and domestic conflict was bizarre. But what I can't figure out is: 80% of the population of Earth died in the plague. Then there was famine. But just 3 (?) years later, while South America is still in chaotic upheaval, and with all the satellites crashed to the ground, the USA seems pretty normal. A fancy dress party where wealthy Southerners are writing cheques to help the military?! So surreal. It would be nice to see a US urban area decimated by the plague for some context.

The plague must not have been as bad as the first season made it out to be if money means anything and you can cash cheques. I liked this episode but I hope they get back on the sea next episode and talk about how Columbia got their hands on a goddamn Ohio-class, and then I hope we soon find out how Cap'n Squarejaw sends it to the bottom.

WP "All the Ohio-class submarines, except for USS Henry M. Jackson, are named for U.S. states, which U.S. Navy tradition had previously reserved for battleships and cruisers" Probably should of mentioned i knew it was the Iowa class Battleship, it said it on the Jame's probably tv spec command screen. If you're gay for navy stuff, check out Jive Turkey on youtube. He's an ex cold war era submariner and plays Cold Waters, talks about the boats a lot. He served on the Ohio class Interestly he says the Navy is completely moving away form Battleships to smaller escort styles, carriers and subs. They are starting producing 2 subs per year starting next year. Rocksicles fucked around with this message at 11:52 on Oct 9, 2018 |

This show is so ridiculous. I don't even know what the gently caress to say about the firefight montage, then at the end a bunch of grown men hanging out drinking cherry cola, Southerner war bond party complete with southern belle offering someone sweet tea, random befriending of a mouse; but the only thing I'm certain of is that we need more Wolf and Azima make out sessions.
