Hell, I kinda think it's their best in (when was Empires released now again) almost 20 years (gently caress I'm old). VNV Nations best stuff has always been something I could easily imagine an arena full of drunken football fans chanting.

PS. Check out Tom Shear's (of Assemblage 23) new side project Helix. I'm really digging it. Quite a bit different from his usual stuff.

Listened to the new Project Pitchfork a couple times today. It's alright.

Because of that drat Swede, Eskil from Covenant, who is doing similar things but better. And well, the real Ronan loves singing about swords, so that part is an accurate simulation!

After I asked, I watched the original Flash video again, and yeah his name is right in the credits. I guess it also didn't occur to me the joke would still be going this much later.

Okay I didn't actually expect Maschinenfest to still be this big so that's pretty awesome.

Also how are mainland Europe venues just so much better at live music events than the UK? Everything from the bar to cloakroom just works better at things I've been to outside the UK.

In the UK it's like you're a burden on the venue for showing up.

Yeah, good turnout last night and it was a great crowd too, everyone seemed very happy to be there. I bailed at like 1 AM but it was still going strong. Got there in time for Control, which was an experience, and stayed for Nullvektor and Iszoloscope who both put on excellent sets. The sound is so good at Turbinenhalle, it seems like no matter who plays there’s never any distortion (beyond that which is intended) and I never feel like I need earplugs.

Further MFest update: by the end of Winterkalte's Saturday headline set I basically wanted to die of exhaustion. Really enjoyed Alarmen, Config.sys, Synapscape, Monolith and Winterkalte today.

I really like how other than the headliner each night, bands all get 45 minutes whether they are big or relatively obscure.

Prop Wash I will find a way to meet you on Sunday! :v:

Ha looks like we had basically no overlap besides Synapscape anyway. I am still a relative newbie to noise stuff so four hours live really pushes it for me, especially when one of those acts is Mental Destruction. The pro move was probably to take a break midway through. I think tonight I’ll catch Hypnoskull through the closing at least.

Hypnoskull seem to have brought an angel with them and are beating it on a car in the venue with baseball bats. It is something!

I can confirm it was mental! Hypnoskull's gear was set up on the car bonnet for them to play and this was all happening in the middle of the crowd.

This was the strangest impromptu goon meet.

Edit: OK not as strange as ones with sex or camping or terrible awkward neckbeards

was literally walking down the street last night and heard this band playing inside a bar so i went in

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Q_xtwpciAI

reminds me of a more cyberpunk youth code. normally at industrial shows i'm one of the youngest people. not here, though it's more punk/gabber. i was greeted by about 40 moshing goth-anime teens and they made me feel like a grandpa.
