People are supposed to get hurt by things. It's fucked up to not. It's not good for you.
It is a bit awkwardly translated, as much as I like the turn of phrase "Transient People" it strikes me as a little off from the spirit of the title, which seems to be about the fact that faith is for people, said people are fickle. Transient implies something else

Maybe something like "For The Sake of Fleeting Faith"? I'm excising the "people" bit mostly because it sounds better without it. I dunno, I'm napkin-translating here.

Oh, I see. Equivalent to "faith is for your own good". That makes a lot more sense for Sanae. She seems like a true believer.

To me, as an Orthodox Christian, "Transient people" suggests humanity's mortality, with faith being for our benefit as we deal with the transience of ourselves and our world.

Since my last survey was such a resounding success, I'm thinking of doing another one at some point - maybe along the lines of the lesser-known part of the toho-vote.info surveys where they ask about yourself and your history with Touhou. The questions they asked this year were:

1. What is your age?
2. What is your gender?
3. Where do you live?
4. Which games have you 1CCed?
5. Which of ZUN's ongoing print series do you read?
6. What is it about Touhou that appeals to you?
7. When did you learn about Touhou?
8. How did you learn about Touhou?
9. If you attend dojinshi conventions like Comiket and Reitaisai, what do you do there?
10. How many previous Touhou Project Popularity Polls have you voted in?

(You can see the answers they got here.)

At the very least, I'd have to slightly rethink #9 and #10 if I'm adapting it for an English-speaking audience, and on that note I think I'd also ask how well people speak Japanese. Any other thoughts?

Fall Reitaisai is in two days, but more relevant to people who do not live in Japan, both ZUN's albums and those from a bunch of popular circles will be available to download from iTunes and Google Play at the same time!

The site's still struggling over the server load but it catalogs all of the available releases and links to the listings in each store: https://touhou-music.jp/

It won't apply to the subscription streaming services but it's still a pretty big step in making this available to the wider public.

Just how many mistakes have you suffered on the way here?

An uncountable number, to be sure.
ZUN recently made a tweet about getting a fan letter from an elementary school girl. Apparently the letter started with "I don't know if you'll read this, but..." so he tweeted to confirm that he had.

Or something like that.

This is absolutely adorable.

I've always thought the series was absolutely perfect for kids, maybe the reckless drinking aside, so I adore the audience shift happening.

I hear that despite it being a mobile game, there are no gacha components (since it is just a boardgame translation) which is nice

I feel that Zun would be the kind of guy who would shut down paid gacha components in any doujin stuff because of the predatory nature of it (so the official games are unlikely to have it either)

I don't think he'd go in for any kind of microtransaction, really, even fairly innocuous non-repeatable ones. It's not a good fit for the "not really for profit" model he asks you to use.

I think ZUN would just wipe it all into the 'Pain in the rear end' basket. Man makes games 'cause he likes to.

Although admittedly that's a lot of grey in his hair. Would be fair if he at least made a decent mint off of it.

This is probably more the reason. I get the impression that a lot of the "modern" stuff ZUN's avoided for so long (Consoles, Steam, iTunes etc.) has been avoided primarily because he doesn't like dealing with bureaucracy and gatekeepers, and has only relented because either someone else has stepped up to deal with it or because the requirements have been reduced over time.

Also, I think he's mentioned his wife works on smartphone games, so he's probably at least a bit aware of that market/platform and how much of a pain in the butt it is to cater to.

Zun has some backwards-rear end views on some newer methods of game release methods and localization, but I am glad he is a smart boy who is not a fan of gacha scumbag bullshit.

I can't remember where I heard it but I thought ZUN just really liked the whole doujin scene, like he just enjoyed it being a thing sold at cons at basically the same level as all the fan works that were made off of it. And just never really wanting to have his works sold through "offical" sources or anything, even though he'd definitely make more from it. But then again from what I understand his manga have been sold from legitimate publications and everything for ages, so maybe if he did think that way it was several years ago.

To be honest I always found Gradius stuff harder just because a single slip-up means you lose roughly two dozen power ups, and every stage halfway through is designed around having all those upgrades. If I mess up in Touhou all that happens is that my shot-type gets slightly weaker and I get reimbursed two bombs.

Imagine if in Touhou a single death meant you're now slow as molasses and can't really dodge anything anymore.

Also yeah, ZUN seems to just love the whole doujin scene and experience, but in recent years he seems to have warmed up to the idea that international fans would like to buy his games but that traveling halfway across the world for them is perhaps not reasonable.

The original Gradius is genuinely harder than a fair number of the Touhou games, honestly. Gradius isn't easy; it was a quarter-muncher originally, remember.

Also, despite the name, “bullet-hell” shooters aren’t just tautologically harder than old school shmups. Your Gradius’ have fewer bullets, sure, but they come at you much faster and you have a lumbering cow of a hitbox to dodge them with.
