I learned that Alex Ross painted a picture of Citizen Steel with a huge bulge once, I am surprised they have not worked that into the show. Also Vandal Savage was created by Alfred Bester. That makes me even more mad about what they did to him on the show.

I actually liked Mustache-twirling, stranger danger Vandal Savage. It's how I learned to stop taking Legends seriously and embrace the goofiness.

I think the problem with Savage was that the character was inherently goofy, but they hadn't quite embraced that goofiness yet and still treated him as this deadly serious threat most of the time. If there'd been a few jokes where someone asks, "What makes Savage so dangerous?" and they said, "He carries a knife! Sometimes several!" like that old Dark Knight flash animation it would've been great.
