Well in the case of Nine Inch Nails, for example, they're one of my favorite bands of all time and I've loved pretty much everything they've put out (if you quit right after With Teeth, you missed Year Zero which is one of their best albums by far), but while I could appreciate that they were getting more experimental on their latest album, I wasn't a fan of much of it. Usually if they put out a release, it goes on my favorite albums of the year list, but this one won't and that's okay. They've put out so much other material that I adore.

My last NIN purchase wasn't With Teeth, you misunderstand. With Teeth was just the point where I realised maybe this is where the band's starting to lose it, it was OK but not a patch on earlier stuff. Last I bought was The Slip (3 albums later) which had a couple of nice tracks but everything else on there was a big fat meh and not really doing much that hadn't been done before. Ghosts was actually the best thing Trent had done since The Fragile but then surrounded it on both sides with similar sounding stuff as With Teeth again.

I dunno, maybe I just get bored of artists more than most people or maybe people are just far more tolerant of having very samey things pushed at them.

Ok, I am a relative newb on the area of EDM, so I figured I would listen to big ones and got myself liking it in general but I dont really have a good idea of where to find more of what I like.

Daft Punk, the only one I had ever heard of really before starting to look for stuff aside maybe Air, I like most of their stuff just fine, but I really really liked "Random Access Memories" to a level that their other stuff does not approach. Is there anything else that sounds like that?

Daft Punk has never really been EDM in the way that a lot of the artists in this thread are. They're more house/electro-house, except for Random Access Memories which was like a mixture of their usual house/electro-house with disco, funk, soul, synthpop, etc.

Justice is probably the closest in terms of trajectory. They went from being mostly electro-house to incorporating more elements of disco and funk and stuff like that the more they went on. If you liked Random Access Memories, you'd probably dig Justice's latest album Woman.

They just put out a remix album in August called Woman Worldwide that's really solid and basically spans their entire discography. Stuff from Woman is on there, but also mashed up with songs they did 10 years ago that are more electro-focused.

Thanks for the effort Rageaholic Monkey, it sounds very on with what I liked about that album. I am definitely going to give a longer listen to it. Something about having the funk and disco element really does it for me when it comes to electronic music. Sorry about asking in the wrong thread.

New Prodigy album is loving great, especially while driving real fast with the windows down. It follows a similar formula that they've been using for years, but like I've said before, I don't care since the formula is great. As long as the synthesizers are dirty and the breakbeats are furious (which they are here), I'm happy.

The non-single tracks are all much of a muchness sadly, but yeah good if you want something to blast without thinking too much about it. Was disappointed with the Barns Courtney closer, I'm a fan of some of his stuff but he feels kinda wasted on there. No hint of any experimentation either, which I suppose is partly why it's so short.

Spinning through the album on youtube I've seen a few comments on different videos saying "this seems like it's a parody of <x> genre or track" which is an incredibly weird thing to say. Prodigy aren't known for parody tracks so suggesting they've produced something to mock other tracks or genres is odd to say the least.

Not parody as such, but didnt 'Ibiza' from their last album seem like a bit of a comedy track? loving loved it for that.

Similarly, my favourite track from the new album is We Live Forever and that definitely seems to be, though not a parody by any means, heavily self-referential to Prodigy's early 90's jungly sound.

Similar to what they did with In Return, ODESZA put out a 2-disc deluxe edition of A Moment Apart. It's got Loyal, some instrumental versions and this new VIP remix of one of my favorite tracks of theirs, among others. It's a mix of old and new stuff, probably designed to replicate the experience of one of their live shows.

When I listen to this album from now on, this is gonna be the definitive way to do so.

I hadn't heard much from him until recently; wasn't he in therapy or rehab or something not too long ago? That and bitching about Marshmello I guess (not that I'm a huge fan or anything.)

GG is definitely much closer to his style, although I haven't heard it played on SXM or any of the streaming stations I listen to yet. Progressive house is just not pop-EDM nowadays, although I'll admit I listen to pretty much all subgenera of house including deep/future. Monophobia's been played a lot, however. Not a fan of "Drama Free" though.

This remix from deadmau5's new EP owns. The original is a pretty standard deadmau5 track. Nothing too special about it. This remix sounds like something from 20 years ago, though. It's drenched in old school house vibes.
I brought this remix up in the Electro/House/Synth thread a couple weeks ago when I heard it because I loved it, but I also don't regard it as "EDM" in the way I would other stuff.

The original version didn't do much for me, though. I prefer mau5ville Volume 1 overall.

Yeah, I think he still is in therapy or rehab or whatever, though he's been playing a few shows and putting out these releases. He's definitely chilled out on the social media sphere, though. He used to be a lot more aggressive on there but I think it was dragging down his mental health, which is 1,000% understandable because being on Twitter does the same to me, yet I still do it anyway :v:

Yeah a lot of the stuff you originally posted I'd classify under "future bass" rather than "EDM," the latter being the catch-all term for basically everything electronic+dance+bass instead of something specific (but then again, "future bass" is pretty much effectively the "specific" classification for any EDM that doesn't fit neatly anywhere else. :cheeky:)

Just a thought, but EDM should be anything electronic related, at least something that you can "dance" to, which is pretty broad.

Too many sub-genre threads leads to many dead threads and less discussion about cool EMD music, which should be discussed all the time.

I mean I made this thread and the drum & bass thread but I absolutely wouldn't lump drum & bass into the same category as a lot of music that gets posted in here. They both have completely different fanbases and scenes and such.

Putting them all together seems like the equivalent of someone calling anything electronic "techno".
