Watched the first couple episodes of Curious Creations of Christine McConnell on Netflix, and it's so tonally bizarre I'm not fully sure what to make of it. Like it's ostensibly a cooking show with a charming gothic theme, but there's also a narrative to it with puppets? The cooking portion is worthless from an educational standpoint, since the majority of the stuff being made is pretty high level with fairly specialized tools required. Large portions of the procedures are skipped entirely glossed over like that "rest of the loving owl" comic. The puppets kind of remind me of Jim Henson productions or kid's shows from the 80s/90s like Under the Umbrella Tree, but the puppets are all complete sex and murder fiends.

Been watching this, and I think most of these problems come from the editors loving up and editing the show for pacing rather than for information, which is a terrible idea for this format. Despite being a netflix series, it's obvious they're angling to get picked up by actual networks since every episode is standard half hour tv show length.

I don’t think I’ve ever watched an episode of Roseanne (maybe as a kid? It wasn’t particularly big in the UK when I was growing up and I think it was on a channel I struggled to get), but thinking of watching at least the new show out of curiosity. I know roughly what happens in the season finale, but worth watching anyway for comparison and continuity?

I watched the last season of Roseanne itself and it was pretty funny yeah, outside of some of the worse Trump poo poo. Classic multicam writing by great performers. I’m looking forward to checking out The Conners.

The Who reference was beneath the show, but I felt sorry for Jennifer Garner's character. She's horrible, but she seems really fragile and even a bit scared.

I get the sense that she's one of those people who are so rigid because they've been taught to be hard on themselves, but I guess we'll see.

I'm guessing the Trump factor will get dialed down now that Roseanne is gone, this can really only be an improvement. The Hogan Family lasted what, three or four seasons after Valerie Harper left?

I mean it's not some deep serialized story telling. But the last few episodes were decent. The new show is to have zero politics though which is good.

There's a flood and it's declared a FEMA emergency which means they'll get money that Dan can use to fix the flooded basement himself and they can now pay for Roseanne's knee surgery. I have never been involved with a FEMA disaster but I'm pretty sure they don't pay out that fast though?

Yeah, I didn't even realize that it went through three different names until recently. I just remembered it as the Hogan Family, and their mom was dead, and their house burnt down at some point.

I watched episode seven of the purge TV show because it was right after smackdown. It felt like it could’ve been episode two. Nobody is updating the Wikipedia page is for the TV show specific purge wiki, plus there’s no thread, so I get a sense that nobody else is watching it.

Last season was incredibly stupid and bad. I think Andrew Lincoln leaving soon would drive ratings up, not down, but even all the RICK GRIMES FINAL EPISODES advertising apparently couldn't save it

There have been a couple okay things in the new season, mostly just Maggie becoming :clint: as hell, but for the most part the show has just become super lovely

I know I lost my taste for it after the Season 7 opener. I'm not the squeamish type, I watch plenty of violent media, but that episode was just so excessively cruel that I felt ill afterwards.

I'll probably catch up on Netflix at some point, but it's no longer a show I feel I need to stay current on.

I think Maggie is leaving this season too because the actor signed up to star in some FBI show while Norman Reedus is going to be paid $20 million per season as the new lead. I like Norman Reedus but I've never seen him lead any movie/show and he kinda grunts out all his lines.
