Well, I spent my day playing Halo Wars and it sure was a functional video game.

I have no idea how it would feel on a console, with an audience who maybe hasn't played much RTS, but it's really too basic to recommend as a PC game. It's very smooth, it looks good, I had no actual issues, but everything from the camera to the tooltips to the controls to the available actions is all very limited. There's just not enough possibilities to really present enough interesting challenges to keep it going. Seeing waves of rockets smashing up the Covenant was a bit of fun, but I don't think I would have wanted to do it for any longer than I did.

I enjoyed it more than I probably should have done, because I love Halo and it had pretty Halo cutscenes and neat Halo flavour. If you, like me, have bad taste in video games, it might be worth giving it a try while it's free.

All I'm gonna say on that front is "for an upgraded port of a mobile game that uses a lot of licensed Japanese music, it could be 2000% worse".

It plays pretty well and adapts to any control scheme under the bloody sun, it's rather nice.

I just completed it, and I have to say while the story is good for what it is, the last unlockable chapter doesn't quite have the satisfying payoff it seemed to be promising.

Still, its an absorbing puzzle from start to finish and worth playing if you are into that.

Yeah, you make a good point about the licensing issues. I just hope they have a system in place in case it ever goes offline

Also true. If you’re expecting a super fancy closing chapter, it’s a bit of a thud. But it’s still great!

I’m super tempted to do an LP showing how you deduce everything step by step.

I just played through Detention. It took me a couple of hours to beat, and it was extremely good. It felt a little bit like SIlent Hill 2 - in the best possible way - at times, but was mostly it's own unique and very powerful experience. If you're looking for something spooky, sad and short I'd highly recommend it.

Is it because it leaves so much unexplained? I kinda like it but I can see it being frustrating too.

In Obra Dinn, is there a way to view each death scene without having to run to each body? Can I do it through the book somehow?

You have to go to the bodies. What you can do though is zoom in on a person and go into your journal which will send you straight to that person's entry.

No, you have to go to the body each time. Unless there’s an undocumented feature. It’s a bit of a pain at first, but I grew on it; it gives you a sense of context and place for things that helps in the back half.

Maybe you could say that, but (Major Spoilers) to me the story even without that missing chapter is pretty straightforward: A ship and its crew are doomed due to greed, cursed treasure, and general incompetence. But holding back the chapter like that implies some secret that would recontextualize the entire story. Then you get to it...and it does not. It explains a few things, including why the ship came back, and that drat twinkling off the side of the ship. But that is pretty much it. Maybe that is the point, that there wasn’t some twist and it was just another job for the insurance inspector. Still a bit of a let down though

Edit: looking at it as a bookend, it serves better as that

That said, I hope a sequel or two comes out of this. I would play a few more investigate em ups like this.

Be aware that all the LEGO games have severe bugs, particularly DSV's Level 4 having a tendency to not trigger the means to progress and complete it.

Sucks, because I love this game and all the famious DCAU voices that return.

Yeah. But it's kind of overstated, it's equivalent to RPGs where you fill your weapon with ten bear butts for +1 attack.

The real part of the game is that when you shoot the bear in the butt, the butts fall off.

It's still a pretty fun optimization placement puzzle dealie. Figuring out how to fit one more scope in the Tetris grid is highly entertaining.

I think games have always worked that way in theory, it's just that digital distribution allows them to make good on the threat. Hell, movies have been screaming at us that we don't own the thing we bought for decades

Doesn't make it any less anti-consumer, but we never really had a chance to fight it
