I always felt like the Baby Pens should have fared better in the AHL than they have given the talent that has come through and the ownership position they are in. gently caress, between the St John-Milwaukee-Chicago run they hold the AHL record for most consecutive Calder Cup final games lost.

Holy poo poo did that place used to rock, though. That banner for 38 sellouts (they played 2 games at the Civic Arena that year as the Pittsburgh Hornets) is no joke.

We can’t quote a horse, of course, but we feel pretty strongly that’s an objective read of equine sentiment as former Toledo Mercurys trainer Bob Bunker tries to lace up “Tony, Jr.,” for what was a briefly lived annual gimmick at the Toledo Sports Arena early in the hockey season.

No, the horse didn’t skate, but from our records, in 1960 and 1961, “Pony Night” featured a raffle where a pony “will be given to the youngster holding the winning ticket number.”

Story-time with Hockles: The last time the Monsters did a game like this, it was at the tail-end of a really bad winter where schools canceled school a bunch. In order to make-up for days missed, a lot of schools bailed on coming to the game. So, there was roughly 500 people in attendance for a 11am start game. Take a look at the "attendance" for the game: https://lscluster.hockeytech.com/game_reports/official-game-report.php?lang_id=1&client_code=ahl&game_id=1011906
Anyway, one of the schools that did show up was in the section behind where I work. It was the worst game I ever worked.

Makes me think of that.... I think it was a Charlotte Checkers game? last year where snow and ice shut down all the roads but their opponent was already there so they played an empty arena game.

My sister and brother-in-law had tickets to that game. They would have gone to it, but they weren't allowed to. (They are both from PA, so their car had all season tires and they knew how to drive in that weather.)

The Cincinnati Cyclones did a Sensory Friendly Night

quote:

The decreased stimulation for the game vs. Wheeling featured no goal horn, decreased in-arena microphone volume, decreased music volume, no strobe lights, no pre-game pyrotechnics, and the lights were on in-arena for the entire duration of the event.

Once the Cyclones decided to host the Sensory Friendly Night, they reached out to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital to ensure they were working with the disability experts in the community to adequately prepare for the event.

...

Motivated to ensure that any family who had someone with a sensory sensitivity had a positive experience at their Sensory Friendly Night, the Cyclones also considered those who might require a break from the action during the game. For the event, the team set up a ‘Chill Zone’ which was a designated area away from game action. The Chill Zone gave those who felt overwhelmed an area to relax and was highlighted by a ‘feel zone’ which had hockey-specific items (snow from the zamboni, pucks, skates, etc.) for any attendees to interact with.

As Smith pointed out, everyone in the Cyclones organization was dedicated to the success of the event. “Jay Kruz, the in-arena announcer, he was amazing, and he really set the stage for what the evening was going to be like. Instead of clapping when something good happened, he taught the crowd the American Sign Language sign for clapping. So anytime the Cyclones would score or do something cool, or even during the player announcements, people would do that, so that was really just a breathtaking moment.”

another game at nationwide arena. everybody keeps asking me if they can fuck the cannon. buddy, they don't even let me fuck it

It's rare that I go back and watch a hockey game I know the outcome of in its entirety, but I DVRed and am currently watching what sounds like a delightful gong show from Cleveland last night.

And just as I post this, :siren: Holy poo poo that Kevin Stenlund goal :siren:.

e- How is that nowhere on the internet? Stenlund takes the puck at center ice, turns Sandin(?) inside out at the top of the near circle, cuts back to the middle across the faceoff dot, and buries it.

Anything minor leagues going viral is entirely dependent on either the team's social media or maybe the local station broadcasting it.

3 goals on 5 shots against versus one goal for on 11 shots. This is like when I'd play with the settings slightly too skewed on EA NHL.
