Q: Wait, you’re saying Lena Dunham only threw this extravagant vegan dinner party so The New York Times could write an article about it?

A: Yes.

Q: So Lena Dunham’s fabulous vegan dinner party was an inside job?

A: Um, yes.

in this article, Brooks recommends that anyone looking for a better picture of the working-class read a book by Oren Cass, a conservative think-tanker whose career highlight was as Mitt Romney's domestic policy director

according to the article and a book review site, the book recommends repealing environmental regulations, cracking down on immigration, repealing the minimum wage and replacing it with a federal subsidy to low-wage employment, sending middle schoolers with low test scores to vocational schools where they don't have to learn math or English, and so on

also, the article doesn't actually say anything about the working class. it's just literally just advertising how much he loves that book and how everyone should buy it

That beat is actually not a super desirable one.

It's weird, like most of the organizations sending reporters to cover the daily news of the White House are big names, so in that way, these reporters are at the top of their field. They're in the big league. But, no one at these organizations really wants to be the White House stenographer. So this particular band of reporters are either green or they're losers who haven't been promoted to better assignments.

they don't have confidence that their employer will have their back if the White House bans them from press briefings or something

when journalists are at the mercy of their bosses, they don't have room to risk picking fights with anyone else. too bad there's no journalist union to present a united front against both the companies and the politicians

gently caress this article, which tries to bothsides the splc by giving absurd amounts of column space to people on their hatewatch list. it also attacks them for not putting antifa or BLM on their hatewatch list.

also, they saw fit to make this an excerpted quote in bold in 70 point bold

quote:

This hate label shuts down debate. ... It creates enmity towards people that are just on the other side of an issue from you,” says ADF senior counsel Jeremy Tedesco. “That’s not something we need in our culture.

Really loving stupid how people talk about politics and sports with such finality. "We totally destroyed you during the midterms/Superbowl." As if you lose the right to vote if your canidate loses. Or that no new elections will ever happen.

Democracy is the personal virtue in voting itself, and does not relate to what happens after those votes in any way. You press the button on your voting machine, you've Done a Democracy, and you go home until the next election. What happens in between does not concern you.
