Only she just wasn't bringing it, and Ru and the producers had to drag her as far as they could before they could no longer justify a win and finally cut her after the top 4. And Kennedy should have gone home at least two times before she finally did. They had made the mistake of cutting Katya after the top 5, and we were stuck with Violet, Ginger, and Pearl. All perfectly fine queens, but none of them were really ever the favorite to win after what was a fairly messy season full of acting challenges that the girls really struggled with. In my opinion Violet didn't earn her crown until the season 8 finale with that alien dress.

Interesting take, I always thought Ginger was setup to win the entire thing and pretty much delivered until the very last moment when she I guess couldn't make it through a single episode/untucked without doing the 'my drag is legit and yours isn't' poo poo which has been the downfall of many a competitor

I was lukewarm on Violet when she won, but all the stuff she'd done after that (modelling, the Von Teese burlesque gig, also just generally making loving gorgeous looks) showed she clearly has a ton of talent that we didn't get to see on Drag Race, and that made me admire her a lot. Also yeah Ginger was probably set up to be the winner, Pearl the underdog ingenue and Violet the bitchy villain, probably trying to recreate the dynamics of Season 6, except Ginger squandered it by being bitchy while Pearl was so clearly carried to the top that Violet kinda got handed the crown by default. Not that I'm complaining, since like I said, I'm very glad she won now.

I like Season 7 more than most people and I'm a big fan of Violet even while she was on the show. Violet I think rubs people the wrong way do to a combination of extreme self-confidence which people often find off-putting in the really young and her really dry delivery style which makes her come off as bitchier than she intends. Violet I think was the clear best choice of the final 3, best fashion sense, best finale performance (granted she was given the best song), and fewest missteps. Plus her two biggest missteps were acting challenges where basically everyone in her group were terrible. She also showed that she can take feedback on her personality and make efforts to change how she comes across after the DESPY awards episode.

I love Violet on rewatches tho tbh. I like season 7 a lot more in retrospect. It just had way too many acting challenges, especially in a season full of look queens. I actually dislike and have always disliked 8 more than 7. Also as much as I love Katya, Kennedy won that lip sync. Neither she or Trixie were robbed lol

Pearl is the real hero of S7. she goes toe-to-toe with Ru, doesn't really change her personality at all but starts to ham it the gently caress up onstage, and suddenly Ru and Michelle are "oh wow Pearl you're really coming into your own". she also didn't give them the "air my personal trauma on tv" content that they clearly try to pressure her into. S7 isn't great, and the "old queens vs new queens" shtick is pretty annoying by the end of it, but Katya and Pearl really bring the goods the whole time

I love Monique, but wish she had been cast for 5 instead. Give the girl another year to make some coint and she could turn it out so loving hard. While anyone would benefit from having more time to prepare, I think Monique had everything she needed to slay S10 minus the coin to fund her wardrobe. If she made enough in between the filming of S10 and AS4, then I'm not too worried that she didn't have enough time.

I think she's spoken since the reveal about not making as much coin as she would have liked, and not being able to have as much made as she'd like. But agreed-- her having to make a new outfit every week was what hamstrung her the most. I think she'll slay on AS4 either way, I just wish she'd gotten more time to bake.

One of the big things keeping Willam's media empire going is how well networked he is in Hollywood. It's relatively easy to crank out videos when you've been doing it forever and know a ton of film crew, artists, gogo dancers, porn stars, etc.
