for real it's guys (always guys) who are unwilling or unable to look far enough ahead in their own career trajectory to see that they aren't actually going to be fabulously wealthy one day

usually they are disabused of these beliefs when they have children but not always and those are the saddest ones

The article itself is worse.

The “robber barons” got rich by virtue of erasing cruel living standards simply because the talented could more and more serve the masses. Readers should never forget that the richest entrepreneurs almost always get that way by improving the living conditions of the greatest number of people. Surging wealth inequality is rather egalitarian and immensely compassionate despite what you’re told.

"capitalism denial" is a bold new frontier

Shame Boy
Mar 2, 2010

They've been doing that forever, though lately they usually call it "crony capitalism" instead of corporatism because corporatism makes it sound like corporations are the problem when it's really the mean ol' government always forcing the poor innocent corporations to take tax breaks or w/e.

My favorite case of this was the time I saw a guy argue the whole recession thing was because the government made it so banks had to do illegal poo poo, because the government made it so easy to do, and the banks really didn't want to but they wouldn't have been able to stay in business otherwise!!!
