A new episode may be airing in Latin America in a few hours. It wouldn't be the first time a new episode has aired in a foreign country first before airing in America, so even though it seems unlikely it's not totally unprecedented.

Legs From Here to Homeworld is still unaired, so odds are it'll be that.

That's the show where they announced it, showed some art and a bunch of 30+ year old men reacted in the opposite manner of this, right?

Yeah, people were ranting because she didn't have big ol' titties and boob armour.

Although like everything it's hard to tell if it wasn't actually like three people massively amplified by the internet drama cycle.

She-Ra: POP owns.

I've never seen the original He-Man or She-Ra, and I know little about fantasy/sci-fi of the time. Fright Zone gave me Wizards vibes though, so can anyone say how influential that was on later media? Maybe Wizards had some common industrial fantasy visual tropes, idk.

The weirdest part is they would never have watched the original cartoon anyway, it was solidly aimed at girls, and most boys in the 80s would have steered well clear.

And it is so far. I'm getting a few echoes of Voltron from it, it's shaping up to be a bit deeper than just good vs. evil, the villain squad has a lot of personality, the heroes are still growing into their powers... it's probably got it's own thread, but I'm afraid of spoilers.

I'm ancient enough to have watched both in first-run syndication, though I have almost no actual memories of watching the show, and am not willing to pretend it was something amazing. She-Ra and Princesses of Power seems all right, having watched the first seven episodes.

The one thing that nags me a bit about it is that the Great Rebellion and the Evil Horde feel a lot more like rival high school sports teams than factions warring for the fate of the planet.

And I think what actually annoys me about that is that basically every 80's toy-based combat cartoon I remember was exactly like that, but managed to hide it from the younger me behind adult-appearing characters and villains who pretended to be kitten-eating evil, and I didn't realize that until earlier this morning.

I do miss Swift Wind's demon voice, though.

I did watch it as a little kid, I remember mispronouncing "island" as "is land" and bits from the occasional crossover episodes with He-Man, however I didn't imprint on it sexually. I'm watching the new show now, seems nice, those horde soldiers sleeping in the same bed is surely just a sign of being really good friends with each other.

That's what I really miss about the 80s and 90s. If an adult looked at Captain Planet or whatever and said "wow, what a bunch of tokens, politically correctness is going nuts" they'd just say it to themselves, or have a quick laugh over the water cooler, and that would be that. They couldn't like...go on the internet and scream directly at the creators about it.

In the 80's, they probably would have, because if your parents didn't have cable, you had maybe four channels, and She-Ra would probably be the only cartoon in its weekday timeslot.

Or at least, that was my experience. Don't want to watch a morning news show, or another episode of Sesame Street? Then you're watching She-Ra, because it's the last cartoon before the channel switches over to its morning slate of religious talk shows.

Exploration is ill-advised.
The 'boy show' and 'girl show' thing has never exactly been strictly adhered to unless enforced. She-Ra was basically more He-Man after all.

I do kind of hope that this does lead to a He-Man revival in this universe and going a similar route to She-Ra, because it’ll set the screeching manbabies off even more and because, honestly, She-Ra just feels incomplete to me without He-Man being out there somewhere to bounce off of occasionally. It’s like having Stargate: Atlantis, but no SG-1.

I dunno, from what I've seen this newest Shera cartoon is pretty good at balancing comedy and drama, I think they just might be able to pull off a decent version of Skeletor. I at least think we should let them try before passing judgment.

I just got into the new She-Ra too. They probably just stole all the Steven Universe fans by releasing in the middle of the hiatus. I agree with it slowing down in the middle for princess-of-the-week stuff but that could be a consequence of bingeing. It can be tricky to get it right because if the entire plot is serialized it can start to drag. I'll give the middle episodes another chance watching them as one-offs.

There's a review on The Verge that's mostly positive but suggests it's derivative of SU because there are now two whole animated shows in which gay people exist and the cast are mostly female. If that sentence had the genders/sexualities flipped the same writer would probably cry PC gone mad
