I read that as more her being all "you guys don't have a miracle handy this time?" but even with your version her character still came a huge way since season 1. I'm a huge fan of how everybody changed over the years, they didn't really let anyone stay static. Maybe except Slattery but I suspect they just told Adam Baldwin to play his vision of himself and let that work itself out.

The premise of this series was great because we could have modern naval tech and tactics without being tied down to real-world politics and logistics. The only way there could be another like this is for a parody or tribute show, like The Orville is to Star Trek. Yes, I thought it was both that and, she's the Nathan James captain but Chandler's an admiral.

I'm sure some military person could correct me, but I don't think admirals take direct command of ships like that, the captain would still have say over how the ship is run, so I'm seeing her look at them as a her appealing to her mentors less than her looking up the chain of command. The admirals would have command over the Fleet but her duty is to the ship and she wouldn't need their permission to issue an abandon ship order.

Slattery looked at Chandler before telling her it's time, I don't think there was anything sexist in the scene. Just 3 people with mutual respect coming to terms with an inevitable decision. Loved the Navy stuff this season, the ground stuff and especially D Day assualt were a bit too 80s cheese with people standing silhouetted against the sky, half the team prone with half standing, running through firefights, etc. But the finale really did the show justice and is up among my all time favorite finals.
