Stumbled on two geese in the middle of the path while biking home today, and one had a bit of a messed up wing and couldn't fly. Tried to catch them to bring them to the rescue, but they ran out onto the river ice, which is still too risky to walk on. Went to the other bank to try and figure out a way to scare them back onto land, but while I was doing that a fox started creeping up on them from the original shore, which I'm assuming was the cause of the injury in the first place. There was also an owl following me, so I'm wondering if he was also looking for a chance at a meal.

Oh well, I tried. At least some other wild animal got a winter meal, and it wasn't a vehicle or a housecat like I initially thought. Also had some deer sneak up on me while I was watching the geese. I'm pretty surprised at how well the new night mode on the Pixel camera works; it was way darker outside than these pictures make it seem.

yeah, chickadees are North American tits so they're pretty closely related. Great tits are more yellow/green with a black "tie"

I'd be hard pressed to separate a marsh tit from the chickadee at a glance though

Great Tits are absolutely savage. I remember reading a description of an incident where the writer opened a box-style rat trap in the garden to discover that a great tit and a hedge accentor had both crept into it, and the tit had killed the hedge accentor and eaten its brains. I think he thought it happened because they were trapped and starving but from the looks of this picture, it seems likely that great tits are perfectly happy eating brains whenever possible.

Oh yeah, whenever there isn't enough seeds in winter it's brain-eating time

That is very insulting to say about this bird. He would never roll around in ketchup.
