Zulily Zoetrope posted:Futurama was loving brilliant in many ways, but it will always be marred by having a "will they won't they" romance that spanned its entire run. That is the worst trope. Is there an episode where that actually started? I remember watching the first season as it premiered and then kind of fell off until it was on Adult Swim. And then every other episode was about Fry thinking he was Leela's soul mate or something. The first season or so just seems to have Fry occasionally thinking Leela is attractive.

She was sorta jealous in the Titanic episode and the one where Fry and Amy actually dated, which I'd say is the start of it, and I think the first instance of Fry being madly in love was the one with the cyclops planet. That's all in season 1 and 2. Season 2 also had the first alternate-universe episode where they hook up, namely the one where Leela murders the entire crew, barring Fry, to cover up the fact that she murdered the entire crew.

In the newest one, Homer starts recapping TV shows. He gives Krusty bad reviews, so Krusty tries to run him off the road in an extended ad for Tesla that shows off all the cool things Teslas can do during the chase. There's a crash and Bart shows up, worried about Krusty's safety. He spirits Krusty away from the crash scene before the cops can arrest him, and takes him to a circus, where he hides away as a clown. Homer makes Marge mad by live recapping their lovemaking. Somehow this leads to him discovering a fiendish plot by TV execs to make too many shows in what feels like the 80-year-old writers saying "There's just too much TV these days! Peak TV is a lie!" Krusty sucks at actual clowning so he ends up doing a daredevil act. Then he does a song about how much he loves working at the circus (The only character that's worse than singing as Krusty is Marge.) The circus goes under financially, so Krusty turns himself in so they can collect the bounty. The jury finds him not guilty because they're mad at Homer for giving their favorite shows bad grades.

another lovely thing about new Simpsons is they mention or show the president way too much, like...with the same old lovely jokes that every single other comedian ever remarks or makes. when Clinton was president they atleast made somewhat funny or clever digs at him -The Halloween election episode "What, is it noon already?" -"thats a pretty lousy lesson", "I'm a pretty lousy president" -Moe yelling at Clinton out the car "HEY CLINTON, GET BACK TO WORK!" "make me!" when homer said "anything's possible with president cuckoo bananas in charge"(2005) and talked about a "quagmire", what the hell was that? homer's a moron. the fox news van going by slowly playing "WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS" was atleast a little funny.

The post-cancellation seasons of Futurama are somewhat odd, in that while most of them (including all the direct-to-DVD movies) are crap, one of the series' best episodes (second only to Jurassic Bark, really) was season 6's "The Late Phillip J. Fry". The rest of the rebooted episodes range from mediocre to painful, but "The Late Phillip J. Fry" is one of the best single episodes of any animated show ever. Definitely an anomaly, but a welcome one.

The cryogenics building was not destroyed and was tall enough to become part of New New York. or The cryogenic tubes were relocated at some point and we just didn't see this in the time lapse thing. I always say that Futurama is a rare instance where a comedy is great from the very first episode. More often than not you have to give a little disclaimer to people when recommending a comedy that the first few episodes are not so great. But Space Pilot 3000 is such an amazing pilot and I remember 12 year old me couldn't wait to see more of what this show's universe held.

The Niblonians protected the cryolab. I'll take my no prize thanks. I agree with wanting to see more of the show and the world when it premiered. It was cool that the show was built on dumb science stuff (but had nerds good enough to make actual sciencey jokes) and was just having fun with the world. Kind if how I enjoyed The Critic for lampooning film.

I watched through the original run of Futurama this year and enjoyed it. I've never bothered with later stuff on reputation and the original run ended nice enough anyway. Anyone who says it at any stage matches or betters the Simpsons golden age is a crazy person, though. Back to the Simpsons, Homer goes into space in season 5, a pretty risky idea for an episode but they absolutely smashed it. Imagine if that wasn't done until the bad seasons or now.

It wasn't actually a major event at all, it was entirely localized maybe?
