Brought the initial goose's mate to the rescue, since it was still in the same spot all weekend super depressed. Barely even put up a fight when I caught it, although someone called the cops on me for harassing wildlife. Fortunately the cops were cool and let me continue stalking the goose, and then gave me a ride to the vet afterwards. I heard back from the rehab place when I wanted to make a donation; both of the geese were starving due to the one goose being unable to fly, so I guess they tried to hunker down and the cold was beginning to take them. The mate was able to fly last week, but today it could barely get off the ground because of sadness and starvation. Fortunately they will be spending the winter with other gooses, and will be released in the spring. Coxswain Balls has a new favorite as of 02:08 on Nov 28, 2018 |

Phanatic posted:No, this is almost as far away from New Zealand as it's possible to get and still be on this planet. He/she has a NZ twin then. Freaky. (I met the NZ one while travelling by bus down through the north island. We stopped for lunch at the roadside restaurant, and when we were finished eating, we went outside to stretch the old legs. In a paddock out the back, there was a small group of animals including an emu, a big woolly sheep, goat, a cow, and some chickens. From the hopeful way they stared over the fence, it was very clear that they expected passers-by to give them interesting things to eat, so we started feeding them roast chicken crisps. Everything was very pleasant until the big woolly sheep pushed his way to the front and spread himself out so as to completely block the emu's access to crisps. This made the emu very frustrated. He ran back and forwards trying to get around the sheep but the sheep was just too large. Eventually the emu got so annoyed he started winding up to deliver a mighty kick. Forutunately for the sheep, he noticed and ran off down the paddock to what should have been a safe distance, but the infuriated emu had forgotten about the crisps and just really wanted to kick that bloody sheep who probably does this every bloody day. So the emu and the sheep ran down the paddock towards the cow, who had been standing quietly under a tree, minding her own business. The sheep, realising that the emu was catching up, starting running in circles around the cow, but the emu stuck with it, still trying to give the sheep a good kicking. Finally the emu got close enough to let fly with one of those powerful legs, but the wily sheep dodged under the cow's belly, which then took the full force of the emu's kick. The cow, so suddenly and rudely woken from its placid doze, was extremely angry with the unfortunate emu. When we left, the poor emu was running away down the paddock with the cow in very determined pursuit. Meanwhile the sheep had rejoined the other animals at the fence, happily eating crisps.) Your picture captures the dynamic of that particular emu/sheep relationship extremely well.

If you're cold, they're cold. Let them in. Juvenile Red-tailed Hawk banging at my neighbors' back door. Think they're going after the cat after having no luck with the birds in our backyard.
