Could you elaborate? It all sounds like regular old synths and samples to me.

For anyone else who cares about Spencer Krug, he released a final Moonface album called This One's for the Dancer & This One's for the Dancer's Bouquet, which is a very Spencer Krug title. It's good and weird, a lot more interesting than My Best Human Face.

I’ve been enjoying this as well. I wasn’t into the autotuned Minotaur, but those songs have really grown on me. Minotaur Forgiving Knossos and Minotaur Forgiving Minos are my standout tracks right now. It’s cool as hell to see an album inspired by or similar to Borges’ The House of Asterion.

Minotaur Forgiving Knossos is an insanely perfect song, and Walk The Circle In The Other Direction is almost as good. It's a huge return to form after Human Face, and more daring and interesting than Cry Cry Cry (which was good but didn't blow anybody away).

Goddamn The Beaches rock. It's like this sort of mid 90s alt/grunge plus classic rock feel.

If there was an alt universe The Crow movie, they'd be on the soundtrack.

NI MUERTE NI MIEDO
Hoping someone here can help me out, I'm trying to track down a song and band that leaked out of my brain that I can't recall.
It's a folksy instrumental tune with a narrative of police brutality against a woman sung in English and a chorus that starts in French and goes into English emphasizing "gently caress the Police!"
The album cover is a colored sketch or lithograph of a woman and a skeleton in pants and coat.

Something similar with more rock to it.
10 rue d'la Madeleine - Vive la commune - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzrz5u_q_e8

And this is a favorite that I think fits in here.

If any of you are into Merge Records, their mystery bundle is a really good deal if you're fine with not knowing what you're getting. I forgot my girlfriend had been using my Spotify account so I got my yearly report and the top 10 was literally just the track listing from Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino.

On another note, I'm not hugely into Vulfpeck but this new one they put out today got stuck in my head. Sounds like it could be the intro theme for a 90's sitcom but eh I'll take it:

If you’re into very good songwriting and music deeply indebted to the 60s British psych-folk greats, you can’t do better than Hollow Hand’s Star Chamber. For my own taste, it’s the best album of the year. It’s not just an album of unoriginal pastiche; it sounds like the genuine document. I am in love with this band.

I'm not a huge Vulpeck fan either, but the stuff that's coming out from the new album sounds like it's going to be more songwritery, which is IMO a very good direction for them. Their instrumental chops have always been drat near immaculate, but one only needs so many samey-sounding funk instrumentals. Many of their previous songs with lyrics have been insultingly stupid, so it's really nice to see them finally putting some effort in. Some of the other bits from the new album:

I really don't understand why Courtney Barnett's album isn't getting more love this year. It's not like the album got bad reviews or anything, but I haven't seen it show up on any end-of-year lists. It's my favourite thing she's done, and it's by far my favourite album of the year.

Yeah it’s about as good as the last one but I guess she’s become somewhat overshadowed by the wave of other critically acclaimed women playing 90s inflected indie rock.
