The best gym etiquette is to never kick anyone out of a gym at any time or for any reason, because they are probably going for a gold gym badge, and that would be just mean.

Or maybe it's to always kick everyone out of a gym because they might already have a gold badge and just need today's coins.

I am sure one of these two is the right and correct way to play this mobile phone game featuring pocket monsters.

I thought you only got 'gym points' from putting a mon into the gym, for 100 points? And that time served had no impact? Ideally you'd be kicked out and jump back in many times for max points?

You get something like 1100 points per 24 hours that you're in a gym.

For reference, doing a raid gives you 1000.

Since you don't know whether or not I was paid that day, please always kick me out of a gym at 11:50 PM. If I was already paid that day, which you cannot know, then I will take more gyms tomorrow.

Another quirk for you, I've played since the game went live in the wee hours of launch day in July 2016, I'm level 34, have caught 7245 pokemon, but I've only caught 43 dragon types in total. I have gold in every other type category.

I’m level 37 and have played since day one, and I’ve only caught 88 dragon types (and that includes like 20 from this past weekends event) with gold for every other type. Most people will tell you the same. Dragon types just don’t spawn that often.

And I’m in the US but got several Mr Mimes from 7k eggs.

Thanks to CoX, my stairs will be protected forever!
I had someone sit in her truck and watch me take a gym today and then roll over and take it as soon as I walked away. I wasn't too upset though because the next gym I got to I got another shiny Shinx.

Then I got home and turned in my 7th research on both of my accounts and did not get a Sinnoh Stone on either one :( second week in a row for my main account to not get one and my second account has never gotten one

I either throw a mediocre Pokemon in a gym or spin it and move on. Taking down gyms is tedious and not worth my time.

I have lost all powers of reading comprehension and counting ability hours ago
I try to put stuff in 2 or 3 gyms while taking the kids to school (kid can speed drop stuff in gyms while I'm driving) and again on the way home. Usually enough to get the max or pretty close. There's one gym that doesn't turn over for days or weeks at a time because you have to park and walk to it in a scenic bike path. My record is about 20 days in it. Good for rare Pokemon to berry feed for candy.

Niantic gives us arbitrary numbers like +100 for putting in a defender, +10 for feeding berries, and +X points from fighting (ex. 2500 CP opponent gives +25 points) but refuses to tell us how many points a gym takes to get to bronze/silver/gold or what your progress is at. I mean, why not just make experience points the same if there's some reasoning against letting people know their point progress?

But yeah like someone else said, having defenders sit does earn you points slowly and it's the most realistic way to earn gold. From my experience, it's close to a month if most of your points are from passively sitting in a gym untouched. If you constantly fight to take the gym, you may only need like 8-10 days worth of defending time, but that's racking up around 100 battles for the one gym as well.

If you have CalcyIV you can scan the gym screen with the progress bar and it'll give you an estimate of how many more points you need to make the gym gold, like how many days you need to hold for or how many berries you need to feed or raids to win.

If you don't want to walk 8000 km for your Melmetal: I just found out that even though Meltan is mythical, you can place it in a gym. So you can feed it with as many berries as possible and hope for the occasional extra candy drop.

Yep, I've been putting a meltan in the gym near my house that only occasionally turns over. I figure at this rate it will take only (checks watch) 87 months to get enough candy to evolve!

So definitely not going to touch PVP or adding second charge moves until I'm sure it won't Niantic my Pokemon or something worse, but will they set a limit to how many battles you can do per day/trainer? I have an alt that I'm Ultra with, soon to be Best, and my girlfriend is already Best. I assume they would put some sort of limit to not allow us to endlessly fight each other for Sinnoh Stones and stardust (guessing it'll be generous, like 20 per match), or take turns throwing matches for rewards? Will they throw out strikes for players they see battling each other repeatedly?

I also assume they'll do a rollout like their other features, so only max level players can do it first. Hope they keep it so you never need to heal Pokemon for this.
