plenty of non-profits screw over their employees wrt pay while offering OK benefits; the big money part tends to show up in being a sinecure for someones relative in the c-suite positions

recruiting is garbage status: goon has been trying to apply to my company for the past two weeks right as we’ve been transitioning to a new internal tool. it seems like they’ve completely lost his resume and anyone who’s trying to access the internal tool is now getting a 404

What's it like to work at EA? One of their recruiters hit me up recently, I've heard from some very reliable people that it's 10x better for work life balance these days than it was a decade ago.

the position itself is more work on the frostbite engine & tools rather than any particular game franchise, so there's no hard release deadlines like there probably would be if it was a game programming position. the pay grade of my current job honestly is terrible, even for the vancouver market (like C$85k for 6 years exp) , so i'm seriously considering basically any role that would pay at least 30-40%+ more, which from glassdoor seems doable for my level of experience.

lol if you believe this

working on the empire-wide engine means doing engine support every loving day, in every timezone

Too many people consider it their dream, their passion, their life goal and are willing to work for really lovely salaries. It's like Hollywood but there are fewer superstars and no union.

At least there's no porn equivalent to fall into if you don't make it.

today it was sprung upon me i have to give an interview to some guy who is driving like 6 hours for the interview, and almost everyone is taking time off here except for a few other engineers.

was also told he's "going to be there all day" by my boss, so question: what do i do with the guy?

should i just ask him for $1000 to get the job, or just take him out to the bar and see how much he can drink? not sure what to do with humans for more than an hour that doesn't involve money or booze.

C-unemployed-Js: So I almost :yotj:’ed at some local MSP/VAR today, on-site interview with the manager, the director, and the owner. Everyone seems to like me, it’s going really well: owner says he wants to hire me, starting Monday, quotes me at :10bux: a week, I counter with :10bux:+10% and he doesn’t seem too put out, goes to talk with his two subordinates “just to make sure they’re both on-board”. I wait for five minutes, then the owner comes in and tells me one of the subordinates is on the phone and assures me they’ll call later this afternoon, then walks me out, real friendly-like.

It’s later this afternoon and no word.

If they were willing to bolt over 10% then it’s for the best I blew my chance by standing firm, right?

...Right?

:sigh:

E: both of these subordinates phone interviewed me earlier this week and in-person interviewed me before the owner did. I was getting a lot of positive feels off both of them, too.
