I just wrapped up chapter 6 yesterday and the little moment with my horse was probably the saddest thing in the game. I kept that horse alive the whole goddamn game you absolute assholes Rockstar, you could have kept him alive and let me give him to John to make his escape on instead and carry on into the epilogue.

I haven't done any googling because I still want to avoid any potential epilogue spoilers randomly dropped into the general RDR2 news so apologies if this is an easy one, but how durable are horses in online? I fully expect the trolling meta to be 'kill the other person's horse so they lose their bond benefits and health/stamina levels' unless there's some kind of magic horse re-spawn deal like insurance claims in GTAO.

I don't think I want to deal with that if they're as squishy as NPC horses in single player so I might skip online entirely.

If a horse dies online you can either get it back for free from any stable or summon it anywhere for a small fee if uninsured or for free if insured. Also no matter what you can always summon a scrawny nag which is a piece of poo poo but it's better than nothing.

So in Chapter 5-6 when you find out you have the TB did anyone else immediately dress their character as Doc Holliday from Tombstone and then go on the Arthur is dying redemption tour while saying things like, "My hypocrisy knows no bounds".? I just finished the mission where Dutch kills Cornwall and had to stop for the night. I gotta work the next 4 days so hopefully I can wrap up the story on my next days off.

Post chapter 6 possible bug spoiler Is there some kind of bug making John super skinny? He looks like he's made out of sticks and wearing bellbottom jeans where his model goes back to normal proportions at the feet in every outfit that doesn't include a coat, this can't be right?

I'm pretty sure they have patched those two horses that appear in the very north of Saint Denis.

I go look there every single time I ride into S Denis, and they are always Morgans, Kentucky or Tenesees. Checked it probably about 20 times since the patch a week or so ago.

I noticed the same thing. Not sure if a bug or because being a ranch hand is hard work and hes on a diet of lovely Abigail stew.

He is supposed to be pretty skinny, but there's apparently a bug that occurs when you first enter the epilogue which stretches his model over Arthur's animation skeleton, or something like that. Closing and restarting the game should fix it.

That just means its already mid-session. If you say "yes" and wait 3 minutes you'll get into the next round.

Its annoying you get put into mid-session games that you can't join until they're over, but like, IDK that's a thing in games matchmaking sometimes?

Thing is once you're in a session you can just ride it and play game after game so its not really that bad. Just wait out the one round.

I tried this and it fixed it at first, but then as soon as his clothing changes (like to his pyjamas or whatever) the model is reset to the weird super skinny one.

Super frustrating if they don't fix it, it looks like a Tim Burton movie puppet.

MeatwadIsGod posted:

I'm in the second part of the epilogue and am starting to feel like the character switch to John wasn't necessary. I know they probably did it because everyone expected it, but it kind of fucks the pacing. I know this varies from player to player, but I basically did everything as Arthur that I possibly could in terms of challenges and side activities before the big St. Denis bank robbery in Chapter 4. Then Chapter 5 was like a weird fever dream (intentionally, probably) then Chapter 6 was basically closing the loop with Arthur as he finds redemption....And then it's time to do ranch chores as John while his old gunslinger life pulls him back in and estranges John to his wife and son. It's done well, but we've been here before.

And from a gameplay-narrative relationship it kinda has weird consequences. Arthur probably feels very personalized to most people who played this because of how their Arthur behaved, how he dressed, what he looked like, and what he spent his time doing. So (in the best ending at least) Arthur helping John escape and dying on his own terms seemed to suffice. It had a real sense of finality. And we already know how John's life turned out so we know that Arthur's hopes for John came to fruition at least for a little while. So while playing as John it feels weird to wear clothes I crafted as Arthur or to awkwardly finish up the dinosaur bone or legendary fish missions because you're just belatedly finishing up stuff that Arthur started, closing up relationships that Arthur forged with people.

Yeah I feel the same way, john doesn't come across that well in this game either. He's this guy who starts the game by running away from his 'family' and doesn't seem like a great father for most of the game, and then at some point arthur flips a switch and just starts really liking him, maybe because he's the only person in the gang who has an actual family.

arthur passing the torch to him at the end nicely sets up rdr, where he's tried to be a good man for 15 years, but the john you play as in the end of rdr2 is the uninteresting part of his saga, the part you wouldn't focus a lot of time on in a movie.

I thought they would take a page from gta5 and have you be able to switch between prime-arthur, and post-game john, which would have been great. You could switch to john to finish the main missions, and then switch back to arthur to play as an actual fun character.

I kept a save as arthur right before the last mission, so I could go back and finish the stranger missions as him. John is alright, but I would always take playing arthur for finishing up stranger missions and random encounters, he just seems way more fun in that role. Arthur in the end of chapter 6 is kind of a pain though. The trains don't work, and all of annesburg is a big red tint on the map. You have to deal with a guy dying of TB, and then when I'm done I'll still have to go through the last mission grind again :/

Yeah. Early in the game you can overhear John making advances on Mary-Beth, saying he and Abigail aren't married. He changes gears a little after Jack is kidnapped and returned to him, but I felt like both Charles and Sadie forged closer relationships with Arthur throughout the game than John ever had. You definitely get the sense that Arthur does what he does more for Abigail and Jack. One of his journal entries even mentions that he thought of marrying Abigail years before. Sadie is a bit one-note in being an unhinged bloodthirsty woman hell bent for leather, but I think her or especially Charles would have made for a more interesting epilogue. Either one of them would get medieval on Micah, and really that's all they would need to do in the epilogue. Similar to how all I really remember from RDR1's epilogue was Jack tracking down and killing Edgar Ross. I like revisiting the dry dusty areas of New Austin with its scrubland and bandidos but would have preferred this to be a chapter after Guarma to be played as Arthur. Hell, what with some of the trapper garments mentioning armadillo and gilla monsters and the doctor telling Arthur that hot and dry climates were good for people with consumption, I figured he would have made his way there either with or without the rest of the gang.

Re: epilogue stuff. I do like how they changed all the dialogue and stuff for stranger missions that you started as Arthur but finished as John though. For example the mayor missions in st Denis. John just knocks on the door and says he found a letter from a friend. And then you can just carry on with missions.
I also ran into a stranger that was cursing out his wife. Then I remembered in ran into a similar situation with Arthur and I told the dude to just be the best he could be, and he would get the girl. Then this guy starts complaining to John that a stranger years ago gave him the worst advice ever and he hates his wife.
I did get a book in a stanger mission as John, and when I read the description, it said: book given to Arthur. So it seems not everything is changed for the epilogue stuff

I would assume so. I went to the hermit house again and now I have both Arthur's drawing and John's lovely drawing for that event.

Re: the epilogue story I totally agree that playing as John kind of feels like a cop out, or at least something added at the last moment. I hate that I can't even customize John's hat with accessories; it can only be done with Arthur's default hat. I'm only at the start of epilogue part 2 so maybe it gets better but aside from that one mission in epilogue 1 this has mostly been uninteresting stuff I'd rather they didn't show, like John getting his bank loan. I'm aware they pulled this same trick in 1 but the ranch missions there felt like they were in place to drive the ending home and I just don't see it here.

I liked the epilogue but this is fair. the weird sudden plot emphasis of “we like John now!” doesn’t seem earned. Lenny, Charles, and Sadie are all way better friends with Arthur up until then.

That said, it could be my fault, because I couldn’t remember why John got roped into the plot of rdr1, and spent the entire game worrying that he was a rat the whole time
