I had this too - the towers were pirate, the station they were around were Teladi Company, and for whatever reason shooting the laser towers lost me rep with Ministry of Finance (who didn't even have holdings in-system). I just quit the mission after a few tries, because gently caress that confusing poo poo.

I managed to do this with my silicon miners. Ore, ice, and methane seem to be the only mining resources that are in abundant enough demand that you can't outpace it with your own supply (barring flooding the universe with hundreds of miners, I suppose). With Nividium being introduced with demand and no existing supply I'm making mountains of money on that for now. I guess I'll have to pay more attention to what my miners are doing now if I want to maximize profitssssssssssssss

Man, what's the deal with defense ships in squadrons? They just race to the finish line instead of flying in the formation I pick with the assigned trader. Kind of worthless in the aspect of defense.

Also how in god's name do I turn off 'awaiting orders awaiting orders awaiting orders awaiting orders awaiting orders awaiting orders awaiting orders awaiting orders awaiting orders awaiting orders' every time they reach aforementioned finish line?

I think I found all the derelict ships in the save file and matched them against the systems they're in.

I've got the xyz coords too, but I can't figure out how to interpret them to the maps. I checked a few of these, seems to be accurate and doesn't change between new games.

X is a game about capitalism. Get some money, about half a million credits will do, then find a wharf, buy a medium miner, and kit him out with mining turrets. Set it to Automine in the Information->Behaviour tab, and then turn the fucker loose to start getting rich off someone else's sweat. Maybe go grab the derelict Drill Vanguard from that guy's post, that seems like a fun adventure. You'll probably need to bring a marine along to board the ship.

So how do you get about half a million credits? The cargo hold in the starting ship is tiny, to say the least, so direct trading can suck my nuts if avoidable.

Some pretty easy missions can give you 100k+ credits. "repair" missions can be done with 0 risk - you just fly to the location and hop out into your space suit to use the repair laser on the target object. Transport missions just require that you pick up someone from a station and move them somewhere else, usually within the same system.

Buy as many Drill Vanguards as you can and set them to mine for Nividium in Hetvikah's End 2. They make about 250-300k per 15 mins. I bought about 11 of them and then ended up leaving my PC on and came back to over 44million credits. I saved the game but im going to go back to a previous save since that feels like cheating, but apparently thats a decent way to make some money.
w
Though I was sad to see that even overnight nothing seemed to happen in my game. No stations were taken or anything like that. I even saw that my miners had gone into Xenon sectors to automine without any escorts and none of them died or showed any evidence of even taking damage while mining in enemy territory (on patch 1.3 btw).

Yeah it seems like the war situation still isn't fixed. I think what is happening is that the AI is more aggressive with its attack fleets than it was before, but it won't rebuild them when destroyed. So you see an initial period of big space combat when you just start out, but over time the factions will lose ships from their "assault" fleets and continue to invest in "defense" fleets, so it ends up as a giant stalemate where everyone is guarding their own space and nobody is attacking beyond tiny little Xenon/Kha'ak raiding squads.

Also something about "Xenon" space is that in at least a few of their sectors their presence is token at best. Like the only reason they "own" the sector is they've got a single defense platform somewhere that has an admin module on it.

Is there a way to blacklist a specific ware from my universe traders? They make good money when they trade anything except energy cells so I would like to make them stop that.

Also, I rescued the Boron in the main mission and just have to dock at my Unknown Station, but actually landing there doesn't seem to trigger the next step of the quest. Is there some kind of workaround or am I missing something here?

So something interesting as a thought experiment. When you sell ships, they don't just magic into the ether as before, they become part of whomever you sold it to. I wonder if you can use that to recreate an assault fleet for them? If you can sell them the materials from your own station production, that covers half the ship expense roughly, and when you sell it back even you get back most of the value. So it's good money regardless.

So a good way to check if the there is still a war going on somewhere is to open the map, select the "Object List" panel, then set a filter for "Wharf" and a second one for "Shipyard". Now expand the stations on the left. If any of them list ships in production then the galaxy is still going. Otherwise the game is pretty much done for.

I have a 20 hours version 1.30 game and I don't think anybody fired a shot in the last 5 hours. Food stuff and medical supplies are pretty much the only thing in the galaxy that still has a fluctuating demand, everything else is slowly drying up.

At this point even automatically generated Pirates, Xenon or Kha'aak fleets would help.

Someone made a mod so that auto-explore works by making the ship move in circles around the explore point, taking radar size into consideration! Yay!
But you can never uninstall the mod because it irrevocably attaches itself to your save files and the developer insists on not ever fixing this! Boo!
But someone else made a mod where auto-explore works by fixing the AI's bug where it just sits in one place most of the time! Yay!
But it has a bug where if you save the game while a ship is auto-exploring, loading the save game results in the sector size being extended as though the ship flew off to the side for a while! Boo!

I guess this explains why Egosoft still hasn't made the explore function work. Even modders can't quite do it.

Yep, I'm at 90% completion. The budget is well over the expected cost of the last few parts. I had previously purchased some components for the station and successfully delivered those, so I hoped I could just beat the guy to the storage.

When you right click the station with your trader make sure to select "Transfer with Build Storage", not the station. Also don't try to dock on the Build Storage yourself, let a AI pilot do this as manual docking seems to be bugged. I did this with Energy Cells and just dumped 2000 into the storage for future station building.

I did a single guild mission for the Paranid vs Heretics, where I got to pick from a list of stuff to do for them, but haven't been offered a second. How do I get it to give me another mission? I've since been promoted by the Paranid

My mission was to find and scan a Paranid Bridge Defence station module. It's a common one, so it was easy to find and scan several, which didn't complete the objective. The objective completed itself later on when I scanned an NPC spaceship. In case you're stuck on that type of mission, I reckon it might work if you just scan the correct module and then scan any NPC ship

I just noticed in the encyclopaedia, the false Pontifex's name is Pontifex Maximus Hereticus which is very Warhammer

Just guessing but I think the absolutely dismal reception it got at launch forced them to work on that game a whole lot after release. X4 feels like an apology to the folks who never went back to Rebirth after its launch at the expense of sticking to their early release date too tightly.

Honestly with the reception Rebirth got I kinda figured the studio was going to up and die. The fact X4 exists as it does right now feels like it's part miracle, part government subsidy.

I always was under the impression Egosoft games sell well for a Niche product. It also helps that their dev team is really tiny (i think less than 30 people total?) That helps keep costs down a lot compared to all this AAA millions of budget bullshit.

I also own every single X game now except X2.

Edit: Also capships are actually large in this game, I really dont like how tiny they are in X4.

It's just a bit weird to see that 5 years later there's such a massive graphical downgrade when using the same engine. But X4 is basically on a much larger scale than Rebirth which seems to be content with smaller sectors and factions. It's a tough choice either way for me what to prefer but I'll have to play more of rebirth first. I can already tell this UI is gonna drive me nuts though its nowhere as bad as X3s.

I don't mind the quality of the models themselves, but the quality of how the models are USED is starting to get to me.

Like my continuing saga of Paranids not being quite able to work out chairs.

Every paranid everywhere basically takes a standing position with an T-rex arms pose. But it goes from  to :stare: when there isn't enough vertical clearance to compensate (light clippage like fusing with the back of the chair is easy to overlook and excuse though)

You'd think with merging their brains with the ship, Paranid would be better at parking.

On a lighter note, I do think it's really cool that every chair is a fully automatic chair that can fold upwards into a cushy plank and then back into a chair again. But poo poo like this is why I think i'll be avoiding the Paranid start even though their light fighter is faster than any non paranid scout. No wonder the Paranid are so angry all the time.
