Similar to Rob Lowe. On paper both of them should be ratings gold, but maybe they’re TOO good looking to be the primary focus.

I just started rewatching the Venture Brothers and they use “gay” as a synonym for “bad” at least like twice an episode in the first two seasons.

Threshold was mid season 2 and Species 8472 was the season 3 finale/season 4 premiere. It's interesting that Janeway gives the Borg a freakin' biological weapon (good to know that weapons we consider too heinous to use now are a-ok in The Federation,) and allows them to continue to wreak terror in the Delta Quadrant (and beyond) and she only gets called out for it once by Ray Wise. Not to mention Future Janeway allows The Borg to assimilate and adapt to weapons, shields, and armor from 30 years in the future... Yeah, her little assimilation virus took down a lot of them, but not all, so... Yeah, maybe that's the reason there's been no official canon post-Nemesis...the Super Borg came back to Earth and wrecked everyone's poo poo.

wait, what book? i haven't watched venture bros in a good long time, but honestly can't really talk to most folks about it bc a lot of people default to 'isn't that the show with the sexy woman who was a man? oh lol her deep voice is SO FUNNY!!! she sounds just like a MAN' so even with any walking back what they did, the damage is done and people know Dr. Girlfriend mostly for her less-than-dulcet tones. IIRC there's also some weird joke about her having literal monkey parts put into her to become a woman? Like gorilla ovaries or something. Venture bros also had that weird B plot in Fallen Arches where Monarch made a prostitute run through a gauntlet of deadly traps for like no reason. I feel like that’s a thing that’s going to age poorly: having a hooker be the butt of a joke because they don’t really count as people lol. It’s creepily Puritan and overall just hacky as hell. A “dead hooker in the trunk” punchline has become a super trite way to signal how ~dark and edgy~ your comedy is.

CommonShore posted:please give more info on t his venture bros book it's ostensibly an art book comprised of high quality versions of a bunch of concept art, backgrounds, detail shots, etc from the first 6(?) seasons. in reality, it has a bunch of that stuff but ends up being primarily an in-depth, episode-by-episode interview with Doc Hammer and Jackson Publick about the creation of the show, the process, early adult swim stuff, calling out their references and inspirations, stories of things they did stupidly early on and figured out better methods for as they went along, and for some of the early episodes (especially the one where baron underbeit tries to marry dean) it has them lamenting choices they made in terms of either making regrettable jokes or (in the case of the baboon uterus thing, i think) not being strong enough writers that they could mock those sorts of regrettable jokes without just perpetrating them further. it's a pretty fascinating look into the creative process and evolution of the show, and also it weighs a loving ton so it's good for pressing leaves if you want to pick up some wax paper at the same time

And that it's a Johnny Quest/Scooby Doo era riff in the first place. They even have Johnny Quest characters show up.
