I am about to go to bed after a long day of cleaning up goatses, but if anybody in this thread would like a bird crazies tag (there are two styles; the one that I wear and an OG rectangular one that is still used by some regulars in the Pet Island bird thread) just quote me and mention which one it is you'd like.

Good night!

I will take either please, and if you could get rid of my zuarg tag at the same time that would be much appreciated (because he's just to pathetic for words tags).

I think that's a male Australasian Darter (Anhinger novaehollandiae), but I'm not great with identifying Australian birds.

Here's a similar looking photo of one.

A lot of species engage in within-species nest parasitism at low levels, and accidental cross-species nest parasitism at even lower levels. But still a cool observation.

Thanks for the Australian Darter id and beautiful pictures!
Amazing bird and I’m glad I’ve seen one and now know what they are. The one I saw was a male as females look different with a lot more white on them.

They've been posted, before. They're bad, but they're supposed to be bad.

I like this blurb from that video:

quote:

There are no intelligible lyrics, the vocals are that of an African Grey parrot doing senseless death-squawking. "The world's only death metal band with an avian vocalist." They have a bird as a death metal vocalist, which is a first in its genre. The band is nothing more than a parody, which points fun of such groups like Judas Priest, Hatebreed, Morbid Angel, Nile and others.

Judas Priest, featuring noted mediocre vocalist Rob Halford.

The Northern white-faced owl (Ptilopsis leucotis) changes its appearance to respond to threats.

http://i.imgur.com/zADtGy9.mp4

quote:

The owl has a rather notable defense mechanism. When faced with a predator (like another owl slightly larger than it) the bird flares its wings to appear larger. When faced with something much larger than itself, it pulls its feathers inwards, elongates its body, and narrows its eyes to thin slits. It is thought that it uses this ability to camouflage itself, and it shares the ability with relatives like the African scops owl.

Many different types of owls have some ability to adopt a "concealing posture", also known by the German word Tarnstellung, in which they squeeze and thin their body to look like a broken tree branch, and some types may also narrow their eyes to slits and fold a wing sideways across their chest in a Dracula-like manner to hide the lighter-colored feathers on their underparts. Such behavior has also been documented in Eastern screech owls in a natural setting reacting to threats.
