Things at work might not be as bad as you think they are, if you've got bipo. I haven't so I don't know what it's like, but I am mentally ill and I know it can colour your perception of things radically. Try not to make any rash decisions while going through difficult times. I do hope you get a diagnosis so you and your healthcare people can work towards a way to manage your illness. :unsmith:
Also the pic is so vibrant and I love the sense of movement that you get from the messy lines.

My pic of the day is a Nuutipukki.

This is essentially in the same basket as krampus and pals, Finnish version of an old yule spirit. Used to be that some dude would put on a mask of bark or leather, wear horns and grey furs, and romp around the village with his masked pals raising hell. They'd go door to door making noise, rudely demanding christmas beer and food. He's the version of Santa who comes with an empty sack and leaves with a full one. If you appease him with your booze, he'll say a poem to give the house good luck with their crops and cattle for the year and then move on to harass your neighbours.
The tradition's almost dead and has changed form to where kids do it and there's generally less cursing and swearing as a result. Santa's a lot more popular than Nuutipukki for some reason. Although when Santa first landed here, he shared a lot visually with Nuutipukki, wearing a grey fur-lined coat instead of the red one.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

Thanks, I really love developing this style. And you're right, stuff isn't as bad as I initially think it is.. I'm having a poor reaction to being put on a performance improvement plan and I think management is being really unreasonable with me right now (esp as I'm trying to figure out the mental health stuff); so I'm going to try not to get fired in the next month while I get my healthcare stuff sorted :D

in the meantime, I'm using art as my therapy. It's keeping me sane right now.

I hope this situation works out for the best for you. It sounds like you have health insurance through your job? If so then yeah, don't quit/get fired if at all possible until you have some diagnosis in hand - I can tell you from experience that using COBRA is super lovely and will drain you of all extra funds pretty fast.

I drew an alligator. His name is Samson and he used to be part of a circus act where he and a strongman would wrestle in front of the crowd.

"Used to be" because he ate the strongman, right? I love him and want to give him a hug.

Yes, I also love this dog and want to give them a hug, even if I get my face bit off. I really like the colour palette variation you got here, you usually stick to just a few main colours but this is like a happy rainbow.

This is my first attempt at animation in like, over a decade.

I know some things are wrong (I'm having a really hard time with the pattern) and I need to apply even the basic principles of stretch and squash more so the animation doesn't look robotic. I forgot how long it takes to animate stuff (for me at least), at an average of 30 minutes per frame so far. :smithicide: But still, it's a lot of fun.

The character is based on this portrait that I did for a character in my game a while ago:

Yesterday I decided to try to figure out her attire and doodled a bit before attempting animation.

Forreal though, your digital stuff would look excellent as canvas prints. You ever had any of them done?

Edited to add 'cause I just reread that: By saying that I do not mean that your actual paintings are crap, for they are not. But if you did want to gather a gallery's worth of stuff, getting your digitals printed would fill one up right quick.

Thanks. Most of the pet portraits I’ve done were commissioned. Otherwise I’ve had trouble generating interest in my stuff beyond, ‘that looks nice.’ Making the leap from ‘that looks nice’ to ‘I want to spend money on that’ is hard. I did get some prints done this year for my Patreon and they looked really nice.

A fresh attitude
brewed daily!
I quit my job, but there's paperwork issues keeping me from starting my new job. So I drew a naked person.

A while back I discovered three places in my city that have life drawing/gesture/figure sessions. Two happen during the week and I couldn't attend because I worked evenings. Last one was at a Czech bar on Saturdays, but they had apparently stopped hosting a few months back. Being funemployed, I was able to do this one. I went in prepared to do fast poses, but instead tonight's was a single pose for 80 minutes. I ended up drawing the same pose 4 times, and this is the 4th sketch (and only one done in ink). I feel like I need more work on anatomy, as proportions always seemed off; and also faces as I feel like I'm just drawing animu faces that look nothing like the model. Tomorrow will be quick poses and I'll be heading back.

Otherwise, dicking around in digital, here's fan art of a goon who was ordered by his doctor to behead a cat:

its just a dithering gradient built into aseprite but then i layer it over itself to get the banded effect

birds are full of this nervous energy and are constantly moving so theyre really fun to animate. i identify most with urban trash animals like crows seagulls squirrels raccoons etc. (deer?)

The hard part is picking a new theme. Help me, please? Some theme for the month, like we had in the past in the monthly threads would have been helpful. Is there a January theme?

edit: I talked to my wife and we concluded that stuff I should be able to manage are pokemon, lego and dinosaurs. So that is my theme.
