Feel pretty happy with how this turned out. As it turns out, acrylic ink owns.

drew the picnic table lady that shows up in my dreams sometimes. Including a few detail crops too hopefully this post doesn't end up too long

her stance ended up kinda awkward and pigeon toed but I am NOT redrawing those boots yet again :sweatdrop:

also these took me like 30 minutes to save out, photoshop does not work that well with large files even as PSBs
e: actually I'll rephrase that; it edits large files well but the saving is clunky

sorry to double post. i could use some critique on the oil painting here because i have basically no clue what im doing. i did it all with basically three brushes: a broad cover brush, a fine camel brush, and a wet oily blender

Your technique seems fine to me, someone who hasn't painted with real oils in fifteen years, but the ground feels like it's kinda floating in the scene. Maybe use some darker shades to blend into the rocks some more?

Flavius Aetass
Mar 30, 2011
Agreed about the floating foreground.

The effects of the light and rain are really well done and the overall composition and color choices are good too.

I have a couple general suggestions.

I think you would get good results from initially picturing the composition as swaths of light and dark so that you don't end up with so many mid-tones filling up the painting.

I also think more can be done to make the bush at the bottom pop, especially placing some more dramatic highlights on the leaves. Since the flower is the only red object and the center of attention, you might consider leading the eye through the painting to it with splashes of less vibrant warm colors in different places.

Flavius Aetass

E: accidentally quoted myself

I was trying to specify that the leaves might look more present with warm yellow highlights and leaf portions.

thank you both.

i think foreground actually ended up more that way when doing color adjustment at the end. what i should have done is do the adjustment and then some touch-up afterwards, and also build up more and darker shadows on the right column

i also see what you say about more warm highlights

edit:

i did something i rarely do and revisited it for a moment to sketch in the suggestions and yeah i think it looks better

I feel like maybe I made them a bit skinny. And small hands. I think I'll try to throw it into Procreate to color it, debating whether I should color the sketch.

Did some live art drawing. I feel like 5 minutes is my sweet spot and if I have too much time I get bogged down in details and start loving up my anatomy...

Anyways:
5 minutes

Here's a 10 minute pose I started to redraw...

I liked how this 20 minute pose turned out, though I didn't completely finish the model's left hand, though I thought I had enough time to try drawing her face larger.

The other 20 minute pose. It doesn't look like a 20 minute drawing because I erased the whole drat thing at 15 minutes in and started over because long torso and short legs. I apparently have issues with poses that are side-on and whelp, guess where I got to sit two weeks in a row...

Flavius Aetass
Mar 30, 2011
It can be really tough to get the leg/torso ratio right, especially from the side for some reason.

If you aren't doing this already, I recommend measuring with your pencil at arm's length to confirm.
