Keanu Reeves is just an unusual guy. He was running with a crowd in the mid-90s(River Phoenix, et. al.) that was definitely partying and doing all sorts of stuff but he never seemed to allow himself to fully get dragged into it. His wiki page said that a woman once sued him for hitting her in his car when he was on his way out of the hospital after visiting someone, so there's that. She's a papparatzi though so maybe he was justified.

The Evil Dead films were rough to film, and Sam loves tormenting Bruce. Bruce talked about how in ED 2, for an effect, he was strapped to an spinning metal frame that was controlled by remote. He joked that he became Sam's personal Gameboy for the day.

He talked about how in AoD, Sam threatened to have him do a Rockettes style dance number with skeletons for one shot, so Bruce was forced to take a dance lessons, only to come back to Sam saying "Nah, I cut that."

The most egregious thing I can think of was on the set of "The Quick and the Dead". Bruce, who wasn't in the film, showed up one day just to hang out. Sam was having trouble with the actor Pat Hingle, who just couldn't find his character's motivation. So Sam grabbed Bruce, forced him into a costume, then told Pat that they were filming a scene where Pat's character was going to get the guy who wronged him. Sam told Pat that Bruce was "basically" a stuntman, and told Pat that Bruce could take whatever he dished out. So Pat ended up beating up Bruce to film a scene Sam had no intention of ever using.

Can you find this one? If you Google anything about Patton and losing, you just get pages about how he lost his wife.

I can give you a summary. The story is that, at some point, soon after he started making it, he was offered a corporate christmas party gig. He doesn't say how much he's getting paid, but he says it's obscene for an hour long gig. He shows up, comes out on stage, and everyone is already absolutely shitfaced. He starts a joke, one of his famous ones, and everyone starts howling with laughter.

He says that, in that moment, he realised that if he was going to improve as a comic from there, it would have to come from him, since he'd never bomb in front of an audience again, he'd have to go out of his way to find a hostile audience or someone who wasn't already completely on board with him. And since that's really hard, most comedians who make it even a little bit stop developing there. The George Carlins of the industry are rare. Whatever you think of his material, the fact that he wrote a new, full hour of it every time he toured is pretty loving impressive. I don't think it's a coincidence that a lot of Oswalt's best bits (like the magic comedian bit) are tales of his time on the outskirts of the industry.

Bill Hicks at his best was great, but, like a lot of the comedians he set the blue print for, big chunks of his act are him dealing (or not dealing) with his issues with women. So much of his stuff is directionless anger at women and himself for how incompatible they were.

I've either missed it or completely forgotten it. I don't doubt it at all, though.

Stewart Lee (who I've brought up before) had a great bit on dead comedians: that they get immortalised because you just look at the best parts of the material they did put out. He regrets living so long, since he's just diminishing the quality of his eventual obituary.

The only thing I can think of is when he said George Michael (pre-being outed) was a "huge girl" and that any women that found him attractive were lesbians. It wasn't a bit on any of his albums, I only knew about it from a book with transcripts of a ton of his gigs.

As far as I know it's confirmed that they have video of it, which gives a really good chance that he'll actually get convicted.

I mean, he did have that great bit where he pretended to be really offended about the children's book about the child with a divorced gay dad that got a bunch of baying chuds to hoot their approval before he goes on to make it clear that he actually really likes the one about the child with two moms.

But then he also had a bit where he tells his female audience that if they find Billy Ray Cyrus* or somebody attractive it means that they secretly desire women.

So, you know, pick your battles, I'm not saying everything's black-and-white, but as far as what you pointed out about his misogyny it also somewhat intersected with other bigoted ideas by tangent.

* George Michael it turns out. I've seen a taped version of it but I can't remember if it was a legit special or a bootleg or something he might tape on the road to promote himself to networks. There's tons of his old road poo poo on youtube.

There’s something morbid about the fact that we live in an era where predators can be held more accountable based upon the viralibility of their crimes. Kelly probably would have skated on by without a six night Lifetime channel event, just like Cosby would have kept on keeping on if Hannibal Buress’ bit hasn’t hit the ground running on twitter. I’m glad the hammer is dropping, but there’s a weird element of entertainment entwined with both cases.

And even people who painted themselves as supporters of female empowerment and anti-sexual assault didn't give a poo poo about him. R. Kelly had been basically a meme about sexual predators and child molesters for over 10 years and Lady Gaga still went and did a song with him, then tried apologizing and pulling her involvement when everyone sort of unanimously remembered "Oh wait, he's an active predator keeping underage girls in his house" and decided to do something again.

R. Kelly being a total weirdo sexmonster has been a matter of public record for 25 years.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R._Kelly#Sex_scandals_and_allegations

quote:

The Washington Post ran a lengthy article in May 2018 alleging that music industry executives had been aware of Kelly's sexual abusive behavior toward young women for years but did little or nothing about them due to his success as a performer and songwriter. As early as 1994, the newspaper reported, his tour manager had urged Jive Records' founder Clive Calder to tell Kelly he would not release the singer's records if he continued to have "incidents" with women after every concert he gave. Calder told the Post that he regretted not having done more at the time, saying "Clearly, we missed something."[133]

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...m=.8f4fd67e9390

Basically he attained immunity in the industry because bringing him down would bring too many other people down.

Eventually someone will get around to burying Woody Allen, perhaps. That long ago stopped being merely a he said/his entire family said scenario.
