i like that this seems to be a movie about criticism that is not just the incredibly facile "critics are all failed artists/wish they could be creators/are just jealous" that so many stories dealing with critics end up as. I mean poo poo, you could very easily say that this is a rebuke of the idea of "death of the author" because in this movie, the "author" (painter, whatever) is literally dead and when people start consuming his art in ways that he explicitly forbade, everyone starts to get killed. It could also be read as a rebuke of something like turning an older, dead actor into a special effect (ala Rogue One).

Or maybe, since we're talking about people involved with the hollow elite art world spectacle: "those who speak of revolution and class struggle without referring explicitly to everyday life, without understanding what is subversive about love and what is positive in the refusal of constraints, such people have a corpse in their mouth."

I'm more talking about creating the production music and then getting it in the hands of editors and how one goes about that.

Hmm, not really my specialty. I just fill offline edits with Howard Shore and Steve Jablonski tracks and then someone tells the composer to "make it sound exactly like this but don't get us sued".

I assume your editor used a bunch of Robert Etoll's stuff or whatever and the client doesn't want to pay the licensing fees?

Nah we pay QFactory, Etoll hits are only like $500 bucks a shot usually. I have a friend starting a library and I'm trying to dig up information.

That's actually pretty reasonable.

I heard a second-hand story about a trailer sound designer that made a hit from a slowed down and heavily processed sex moan in a gay porno, and it worked so well it's being used in a ton of recent trailers.

No joke, I somehow got it in my head that The Guest was a romantic drama. That was a fun experience.

Everything is freezing because the rotation and orbit of the earth are intentionally altered as part of the plan to leave the solar system, so half the earth is always facing away from the sun, and hence becomes very cold.

Spidey sense alerts him to danger, and Nick Fury wasn't intending to harm him.

He senses the alien attack in Infinity War seconds before it starts so it looks like he's just starting to develop it at that point.

A better question would be "Why the gently caress are Sony so desperate to keep people cumming in their pants for this poo poo?"

The first Raimi Spider-Man back in '02 was Sony's biggest hit ever at $403 million domestic. Their previous biggest hits were MIB in '97 ($250m), Ghostbusters in '84 ($229m) and Tootsie in '82 ($177m). Tootsie was a one off and the Ghostbusters and MIB sequels failed to recapture the lightning in the bottle but the Spider-Man sequels made $373m and $336m so Sony became loving obsessed with squeezing out as many Spider-Man movies as possible.

The '02 Spider-Man only got overtaken last Christmas by Sony's Jumanji 2 (and even then it only made $1 million more) so not only are they going to be pumping out Spider-Man sequels and spinoffs and prequels for the next 20 years, they'll be pumping out Jumanjis as well.

Half a dozen or so? I haven't been counting.

I saw a couple of the Toby Maguire ones, but have no real vested interest in the character and they didn't make much of an impression, I remember liking Molina as Doctor Octopus, but that's about it. I enjoyed Homecoming and Spider-Verse though, for different reasons. I also saw both with my kid who loved them and wasn't alive for the earlier movies (and has expressed no interest in seeing them).

Spider-man is up there with Superman and Batman as iconic superheroes. He's definitely among the more relateable. Spider-man stories don't have to have some epic scale, it's just a guy in over his head most of the time trying to figure out how to make things right as best he can, hopefully without loving up his own life too bad, oh and he can stick to walls and stuff. And the moral of the story in most Spider-man stuff is that you don't need special powers to make a difference, you just have to be willing to keep trying. What's not to like?

I have fond memories of the Raimi movies as a kid but I don't know how well they hold up except for 2 and have no real desire to revisit them. The Andrew Garfield Spider-movies had potential, but are painfully mediocre and a waste of otherwise fine casts. Homecoming was great. Spider-verse is a top 3 superhero movie of all time. If Sony can keep from meddling too much, these movies are a licence to print money, so you might as well get used to getting a new one every other year.

Far from Home looks interesting - the elemental creatures have an Harryhausen vibe to me, with much better effects obviously. Mysterio looks cool, although his smoky entrance thing reminds me of the Auror effects from Harry Potter. I'm pretty sure they're going to pull some bait and switch with Fury in the movie (probably Mysterio faking out Peter in order to coerce him into something, but maybe we'll get an LMD finally), but it looks entertaining enough overall.

Look at this person who didn't watch Into the Spiderverse.

Far From Home looks alright, but part of what made Homecoming great was that it wasn't some epic save the world plot, just a kid trying to stop a criminal. And it was a Marvel movie with an actual decent villain, so that was a plus.
