Okay i'll work on something this week(end)

In the meantime...

quote:

Ex-AFL player David King has license suspended and has been fined for drink-driving, fleeing crash

The court was told King was driving his grey Nissan X-Trail at 12.10am on October 3 when he crashed into a stationary taxi at Southbank.

He initially stopped, getting out to ask if the driver and taxi passenger, Richmond forward Jack Riewoldt, were okay before shaking their hands and driving away.

King's lawyer told magistrate Susan Wakeling that his client didn't realise there was any damage to the taxi before driving off.

Police later arrested King nearby at Crown Casino after which he blew a blood alcohol reading of 0.10 - twice the legal limit.

Fun Shoe
Drink driving and fleeing the accident. But then you read the article and he didn’t initially leave. Also he was arrested at crown where he may have had a drink before they tested him? This doesn’t sound like a very solid case.

Edit: which I guess is why he was only fined.

I don't think it's nice, you laughing.
I dont particularly like King at all but I would think its more likely the Taxi company just took a crowbar to the bumper later on and claimed damages. The industry is shockingly corrupt.

Supposedly it was after the fox footy end of season wrap party/drinks night.

So he would have been drinking, then drove to crown for an afterparty and on the way there in southbank he hit the (stationary) taxi at midnight.

It could be the taxi company looking for a payday, but David would still be in the wrong, ya know, by running into a parked car. 10 month suspension, $1000 fine and then the mandatory breathlock installed in his car for any drunk driving incident is probably a reduced sentence anyway.

In other news, football has killed a planned national indigenous art gallery in Alice Springs, because it split the indigenous community and resulted in their veto of the move when it was discovered the plan was to build the new gallery on a current football oval.

Is Alice Springs so bereft of land that they need to aquire a football field to build one?

Yeah, it is surrounded by mountains/hills. It sits in a bowl essentially and land near the river floods every year. So there isn't much undeveloped land which is flat or a floodplain.

I mean, the largest bit of flat land around alice springs which isn't the airport would be Pine Gap, because the army can afford to do a shitload of earthworks and even then it is half on the side of a hill and a river.

Also, AFLW practice matches are on this Saturday, so go see one if it is local to you:

Dees vs North Melbourne, 10am at Casey Fields
Carlton vs Geelong, 11am at Princes Park
Brisbane vs GWS, 3pm at Leyshon Park, Yeronga Qld
Bulldogs vs Collingwood, 5pm at Eureka Stadium, Ballarat
Dockers vs Crows, 7:30pm or 8pm at TIO Stadium, Darwin

Not sure if any will be streamed, I think womensfooty radio will be broadcasting from one of the vic games. Club twitter updates otherwise.

Looking at Alice from google maps they have, including school grounds, 11 football ovals in a town of 23,000 people, surely they could have parted with the poorly shaped one right next to the river, which was the planned spot.

I dunno, footy is a big part of life for them up there. Couldn’t the gallery or whatever it is just buy/rent an existing building ?

Footy ovals are the only public areas in alice springs that have grass, essentially.

And yeah, the requirement for footy is much harder to meet (big open flat space) than a gallery which could be built anywhere in town if they had the land for it. A gallery can be built on the side of a hill, an oval can't.

Huh.

Catching up on the news posted to the carlton website when I got home two hours ago and saw my dads name featured on the front page.

He's an old fart and when mum kicks him out of the house while she has friends over he goes to the state library to look up old newspapers for footy results and articles about the early club history in the VFA and early VFL days. He is a huge contributor to the carlton historical fansite https://www.blueseum.org so he'll be chuffed he got a writeup by the official club historian (who he knows and sends emails all the time) on the club website.

Final Score
Adelaide 9.4.58
Fremantle 5.8.38

First practice match of the season, they used it to trial 20m quarters instead of the usual 15. Clarke also tried a new running handball game to some effect, looked a lot better than scrap and kick, and the girls seemed up to it despite the slippery conditions.

We know the captains of the AFLX made-up teams, we know the stupid team names and stupider jerseys. When will we know which players have been picked to play?

And will those players be given enough time to suddenly come down with an 'injury' forcing them out of the most prestigious round robin night in our sport?

Shes pretty good, it doesn't help that the crows second ruck will also miss a round or two of the season with an injury in the game game

quote:

In better news, x-rays confirmed no bone breakage in fellow ruck Jasmyn Hewett’s right ankle.

Hewett hobbled off in the final quarter of the trial game after landing awkwardly at a ruck contest.

Plus the crows lost their leading goalkicker Ruth Wallace as she's sitting this season out due to personal issues.

Yay, AFLW is almost back :3:

Real shame for Metcalfe, she's not the league's best ruck but she's definitely the Crows' best ruck. And one of only two premiership rucks ever in the AFLW :colbert:

Thought our new recruit from basketball, Jessica Foley, looked super impressive in the match. Depending on how Hewett pulls up, Jess might need to become our lead ruck, but she could play literally anywhere on the ground. She played forward, back, on-ball and ruck during the match and looked great in all of them.

I also thought Chloe Scheer was great but I might be biased because my little ten month old girl is called Chloe and she's so cute and I love her :3:
