The Good Isekai and VRMMO Thread for people that Like Isekai and .hack Hey, please don't hate on the genre in general here, or share your rant for why isekai is terrible and bad. You can be critical of series! That's more than fine! But like you have a ln thread, a fantasy manga thread, a chat thread, a seasonal anime thread, the specific threads for whatever the currently airing isekai anime is, and an official unofficial offsite discord to do that all in. We've all read it and heard it and maybe even said it countless times before. This is not the thread for slave harem fantasy isekai, sexist revenge fantasy isekai, or rape fantasy isekai. Those can go in the other threads. what did the sao auther do that was woke? genuinely curious I really liked the gungale online spin-off and recovery of an mmo junkie. gungale in particular was a blast. the differences between the characters' real life selves and their mmo personas was pretty great across the board in a way that was funny and endearing. and the action scenes managed to make the low stakes work in their favor by letting the characters have a kind of breezy approach to things like limb loss. the big finale fight in gun gale is somehow one of the more memorable fight scenes in recent memory for me because of how unexpected and hardcore it is. LLENN is incredibly good and is a true doom-murder head

another cool manga is Handyman Saitou in Another World just an average handyman gets transported to a fantasy world and joins an adventuring group as sort of a rogue. mainly disarming traps. Occasionally, the manga will focus on a completely separate character, my favorite is Dwarf mage with dog.

can vouch for Faraway Paladin, Handyman Saitou, and S-Ranked Daughter, those are probably my top favorites that I'm currently reading. I wasn't expecting Sacrifice Princess to count for this thread but thinking about it I guess it would. It's really good, and also licensed so you can buy the official release & support it. I was reading From Maid to Mother and ended up getting kinda bored with it. It wasn't bad, and I might catch up on it since I see it's gotten some new chapters. Kinda same with Black Healer I liked the setup and characters but eventually got bored with the plot, but they're worth checking out. A while back I also read the first volume or so of the one where the healer gets really buff and it was funny but after I read that volume the gimmick had kinda worn out and I just wasn't interested enough in the plot to keep going with it. That ends up being my main issue with isekai in general, I like the initial setups (of the ones that aren't rear end) but the plot rarely has enough meat to hold my interest long-term.

His character was wearing a real-money skeleton costume so now he's a skeleton. He decides to RP and try not to stand out, and fails. https://lhtranslation.net/yasei-no-last-boss-ga-arawareta/ The top player of an MMO gets reincarnated as his max-level character, has to figure out what's going on and why. Isekai Yakkyoku - Eldest brother who was a pharmacist dies and reincarnates into rich family. Uses his previous knowledge to help people in new world. Knights and Magic - Mechs and Magic. Have not Read. World Teacher - Isekaishiki Kyouiku Agent - Spec Ops guy dies. Reincarnates as heir to rich family. Parents gone and is raised by maids and takes in beastkin as foster brother and sister whom he tutors in magic when they go to the academy. Kono Yuusha ga Ore TUEEE Kuse ni Shinchou Sugiru - In spite of being OP, the hero is very cautious...That's basically the title and the motif. It's very funny. I can't vouche for ALL of them, but I have read most at least enough to rec them as nice relaxing fare with the unread ones looking very promising and having some degree of recommendability based on cursory view or recs from here.

A lot of Isekais fall into this weird 'It's OK to have a slave in this other universe so best to just do as the romans do' sort of thing. I'm not a fan. I can understand they want to show Japanese people as being compassionate and even in these alternate worlds where slavery is A-OK they treat slaves super well, but then the big twist is almost always "the slave ends up lusting after the master because she's treated so well". I just read the first chapter of skeltal paladin manga and hahahaha ok this MC loving owns Like I love that his first impulse when waking up in the MMO is to gently caress around with all his movement abilities and see which ones still Just Work, then when he realizes that teleport-dashing still works he's just like  And then he just fuckin' turbo-dunks a bunch of rapists, good first chapter

I had read it a long time ago and wasn't sure if to share. Some of the later chapters have him wear the goofiest mask(I think tiki) with a hulk dude just going all out. It's every bit as awesome as it sounds. Edit: Thoughts on Konjiki no Wordmaster. It's got the grumpy kind of misanthropic male lead, but he's actually a decent guy and actually HAS reasons for his loner misanthropic attitude(foster care is rarely ever all sunshine and roses).
