Because of the bang part  Okay, Flan down. I was having trouble figuring out when use which guns as opposed to just going ham with the minigun. Still took 13 or 15 minutes to cautiously zap things for too long and end with 80-120 bullets. This just leaves Annin Tofu (with the loving 6-shooter and gangster gun), the 5th roll of film, and 2-3 challenges I can't figure out the meaning of. The benefit of playing Flan was finding out how to consistently 1-shot the penis/sludge/g-Irons monsters with the zap gun. Before just a few minutes ago I thought it was a fluke when they died to one shot instead of two. Zap the protective goop over the eye. It'll burn/pop the goop and then destroy the eye with the same shot if you hold it down ready/r.click the whole time

Huh, I'm watching a Japanese virtual toutube person play this and the gore is really toned down The dude who gives you the notebook isn't torn in half and the guy in the West hallway's wounds aren't nearly as extreme when she examined him. There's still a lot of blood and the guy hanging from the ceiling by that pipe through his mouth is still there though. Interesting, I had no idea.

Japan has historically had a huge aversion to dismemberment in games. They have an extra game rating similar to the Western adult-only rating that essentially means that stores will not carry your game no matter what, so developers do whatever they can to avoid getting nailed with it in gory games. There was a re-release of Resident Evil 7 that re-added the gore and in exchange suffered that rating, but by then the actual game was already long released so it didn't matter.

Just finished 4th Survivor. Goddamn that was tense. Was dry at the end there. I like that Hunk is an over-the-top super soldier and you feel like it going through there. Especially after I was mostly plinking away at a handful of zombies at a time with Leon and Claire. Does he ever show up in later REs? Tofu makes me laugh but I hate knife fighting so I doubt I'm gonna master that.

Canonically, HUNK has only appeared in RE2 and I think there's a note from him in Code Veronica or something like that. He has been in nearly every game regardless, however, usually in Mercs mode. edit: Also, regarding Tofu, you're not supposed to be using the knives to fight enemies.

A flashbang can start fires and the concussive force of the explosion can disfigure you at best. They mess with your balance too so you can easily fall right over.

Yeah human dismemberment is a hard line change in ratings. Like for example in dbz there's a character that loses an arm and later on fights without said arm but whenever he's brought on in video games and stuff he's modeled with both arms and his missing arm is just hanging limply

RE4 was also censored way back in the day, critical headshots don't blow up heads in the JP version. Instead the critical headshot animation plays backwards real fast so it just looks like a blood explosion but is actually the exploded head really quickly re-forming itself.

I have a question about how a game like this sells in Australia, because IIRC they had some law about 'violence against authority figures' in games. Left 4 Dead 2 for example was missing the riot armor infected because of that, even though they were zombies. Has that been relaxed over the years, or do they get the 'toned down' RE too? (Or is it something extra like 'all cop zombies are replaced by civilian zombies')

I think whether it saves you might be dependent on where you are in the grab animation. Maybe it only works if you're in the portion of it where you could've saved yourself if it were in your inventory?
