Love and respect to Chuck D and B Real but Prophets of Rage would be infinitely better with Denzel on the mic. He’s the most energetic rapper of his generation. Also liked the freestyle to cover up the guitarist not bothering with that solo.

But yeah, a new album from Rage would be great. Maybe have El-P produce it!

I know El-P produced this track of his and it loving goes off too:

Rage was good pre BoLA, but rap metal was almost universally bad back in the day. This resurgence of good rappers screaming and not bad numetal singers rapping is way better.

That Denzel Curry song is garbage but this is actually really good. Make me rethink my philosophy on rap song covers (not really, but this one is really good.

I mean half the whole soundcloud scene is dudes screaming. I actually don't mind some Craig Xen stuff occasionally.

Wait are you saying BoLA was a bad album?

That's always been one of those perfect albums in my mind. Just a blast from start to finish. 20 years later, it still holds the gently caress up too.

BoLA is weirdly divisive. The self-titled is easily the best. Evil Empire has the most meh tracks but also several of my absolute favorites (Bulls on Parade, Down Rodeo, Wind Below).

Renegades is pretty much pointless but I really like the Ghost of Tom Joad.

I never really liked rage against the machine but that cover sounds better than anything else I’ve heard him do (which admittedly isn’t much).

But I’m also a fuddy duddy who can’t recognize most current rap as rap :corsair:

Yah I don't get saying BoLA was bad if you like RATM at all, but to each his own. Testify, Calm Like a Bomb, Sleep Now in the Fire, Born of a Broken Man are some of my favorites.

It was ok just nowhere near the first two imo

e; to clarify I just didn’t like that many songs on BoLA, calm like a bomb and a couple others. I remember it feeling very commercialized which probably skewed my opinion too.

gently caress em we ball, Death to him who cross me, a lot of the stuff produced by Ghostmane.

A lot of the stuff he does kinda reminds me of early Necro. Production is way different, but subject matter and whatnot are very similar.
