I got into RATM from hearing Guerilla Radio in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, so I've been listening to them for almost 20 years now. It's just good-rear end music. It was great when I was a teen and it's great now that I'm approaching 30 :colbert:

Sure, a lot of rap metal (or whatever the hell that genre is called) was absolute garbage. RATM was not, though. Just like a lot of nu-metal artists were absolute garbage, but Deftones were not. They made (and continue to make) great music. Just because most of that era was trash doesn't mean there weren't some good artists in there.

And RATM predates that era by like 7 or 8 years anyway lmao

Of course there's good new poo poo from other artists coming out nowadays, but that doesn't mean you gotta automatically age out of music that was good 20 years ago. Smh.

I don't really consider rage rap metal (because the rapping wasn't terrible), I was just lumping all rapping with distorted guitars together for comparisons sake. Stuff like korn, slipknot, reveille, hed(pe), limp bizkit, pre-country kid rock, etc hasn't aged well at all. Even if some of the music was cool the rapping was generally really bad and corny. Deftones and snot are the only ones from that era I ever listen to anymore.

Glad you’re liking it! I’m extremely psyched to see his continuing success! I’ve been following him since his appearance on the 1989 Pathological Compilation through Terminal Cheesecake, God, Techno Animal and so on. It’s awesome seeing someone developing cool sounds over decades. Kind of like El-P for example.

I like her too but her music is all over the place. Princess Nokia has the same issue. I kinda dig Kali Uchis more now, way late to the party.

I don’t know much about clout chasing music so this got me reading some pretty bad articles about it.

One said “Lil Pump’s Gucci Gang, is the best example of this era. It’s 124 seconds long, and mentions the title over 50 times. That extreme level of repetition grabs your attention by being interesting. The more attention we pay to it the easier we remember it, the higher its importance is as we focus on it.”

All I could think of was this pioneering track:
