What did people like this year?

Here were a few standouts for me. Its all Canadian and Finnish stuff this year.

Akitsa - Credo - Sucker for Akitsa and the vocals give me Panzerfaust vibes
Purity Renaissance - s/t - This was the biggest surprise for me. Vinyl was remastered
Nachtlich - Twin Pillars of Nocturnal Hatred - I liked just about everything this band has done
Cosmic Church - Täyttymys - Epic stuff
Frozen Graves - s/t - More epic stuff

Yes.
Oubliette, Vermilia and Gaerea

Extremely truncated list:
Those two that I linked above.
Purity Renaissance - great album.
Oldowan Gash put out 2 demos that are pretty good.
CdG - Sinster
Funeral Mist - Hekatomb
Varathron - Patriarchs of Evil
Moenen of Xezbeth - Ancient Spells of Darkness...
Panphage - Jord
Reversed - Widow Recluse (thrashy death-black count?) <---seriously check this out if you haven't yet
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NKB4pYt6O0

And then a whole bunch of non-black metal that was great. This was a great year.

These two for sure. The new Svartidauði record is great as well. My favorite black metal release from this year is probably the new Ungfell album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OY7cUMe57UY&t=3s

The Tyrannic album is sick because it sounds like Mortuary Drape and 1st wave black metal, they're also a great live band https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYC2AG4bLU8

Its been a little less than 10 years since I spent 10+ years listening to metal 24/7, so I'm a bit out of the loop.

poo poo like:

Taake - Nattestid/Bjoergvin/Doedskvad
Leviathan - Tenth Sublevel.../Massive Conspiracy...

were pretty much my absolute sweet-spots before I dipped out. What have missed in the last years?

2009 was probably when I stopped actively following stuff.

Edit: hahaha, obviously there are probably a million great albums, but I mean similar in production and style to the mentioned albums.

Fair enough.

Already doing that plus jumping down plenty of bandcamp rabbit holes. Just thought maybe someone might have something they wanted to shout out.

Finding new stuff is hard :effort: Makes me wonder how big of a role nostalgia plays in the older stuff I listen to.

I'm way more critical now, and let fewer things into the mix.

Regardless, point taken.

I can shout out a few albums, but similarity to Taake and Leviathan may vary (though Leviathan themselves put out the pretty good Scar Sighted a few years ago).

Wode - Servants to the Countercosmos
Palace of Worms / Ecferus split
Naðra - Allir vegir til glotunar
Uada - Devoid of Light
Inquisition - Obscure Verses from the Multiverse (it recently came out that Dagon is a pedo so up to you if you want to keep listening to them)
Krater - Nocebo
Batushka - Litourgiya
Mgla - Exercises In Futility
Infera Bruo - Desolate Unknown
Mare Cognitum - Phobos Monolith
Cultes des Ghoules - Henbane
Cult of Fire - A bunch of Sanskrit letters
Infestus - E x | I s t

Sweet, thanks. Yeah, I followed Leviathan and Taake loosely through the years.

Found some newer Chaos Moon material. Randomly found Batushka a few days ago, so already seeing some similarities.

Helter Skelter is distributing a 4 - 7" set of some of best from the late 90s. First band releases from Watain, Triumphator, Malign and Ofermod

The 7 inch isn't my preference, but these releases are legit for the medium.
