I'm not from New Zealand and only marginally know about the efforts to change the New Zealand flag to feature a fern leaf. But this livery still filled me with national pride for the island nation.

For a while, Horizon had Q400's known as Skittles and Shrek (a second green one was "Fiona"), which weren't exactly attractive paint jobs. Skittles was one of two Q400's Horizon acquired from a Chinese airline, and both of the airplanes quickly established themselves as maintenance hogs by Q400 standards (which is like being fat by American standards), so their leases only ran about 5 years before Horizon ditched them. Despite both of the airframes having a considerable amount of life left in them, both of those airplanes were scrapped when Horizon returned them, and the persistent rumor is that the airframes had significant issues from being abused in China that made them cheaper to scrap than repair to lease out again. azflyboy fucked around with this message at 08:50 on Feb 19, 2019 |

Yeah that's the thing that's not supposed to happen when you do that. Looks like the plane nobody ejected from was the one where the nose broke. Not good at all.

Some 250km/h of headwind caused my Friday QF12 LAX-SYD flight to end up in Brisbane due to not having enough fuel to keep fighting it to Sydney. I remember sitting somewhere around New Caledonia watching the time to destination stay the same for about an hour, must have been pretty bad. https://flightaware.com/live/flight/QFA12/history/20190216/0640Z/KLAX/YBBN/tracklog You can see it struggling to keep above 700km/h here for a long period, let alone the usual 900km/h. edit. Also RIP A380, most pleasant plane I've ever travelled in cattle class on.
