So about 6 months ago I started dating a girl who has been curling for a few years. It's something I've always wanted to try so, as a date, she arranged to bring me out to give it a shot. I enjoyed it so much that I pretty much immediately signed up for the beginner's league and have been out once a week since the start of January. It's great stuff and I'm glad this thread exists. I actually curled against the wife's team last night in our friday night league, they killed us 9-5 or 10-6 (I can't remember if we put up all the points towards the end) but that's better than last year when they beat us like 16-2 or something.

They're an underdog, they lost their provincial playdowns but had enough points to get into the wild card play off and really earned their way in. It's not hard to cheer for those guys. Plus the third is hilarious, he's got a ton of personality.

There's a new series on netflix called "losers" that tells the story of really talented losers in sports. Episode 4 is about the brier and it's a pretty entertaining story. It's pretty funny seeing the dudes throwing rocks with a cigarette in their mouth.

I finally remembered that the Brier is on ESPN3 and man, Bottcher is really good at this. Too bad Manitoba is in the same pool, they're my favorite teams. I really wish that some curling body here in the US did a better job letting us know how we can watch stuff, usually it's all buried somewhere or I have to bother Matt Sussman on Twitter or something. Also I played in a league this winter! We won a single game and it was one of the weeks I was out of town! But it ruled! EDIT: Also guys like PEI's skip who swing the stone entirely off the ice on their delivery are insane to me, how the hell do you moderate your delivery strength if you're doing that?! Yeah the lifted stone is old school. Some guys like koe only do it for up weight shots. Jim cotter does it for every throw. Looks like koe and Jacobs are the teams to beat. Jacobs in particular has been outstanding E. It almost looks like the playoffs are set for the brier. One of the 4 bottom teams would have to go 4 and 0 in the Champions pool to even have a chance I think. If any of them could do it it would be McEwen. So on the broadcast they were talking about how Bottcher said the best game they played was the one against Alberta, and it was the one they lost, but drat those dudes are bringing it every game and I can't stop thinking about if they had beaten Koe... The women's worlds is on. You can usually watch all the games not involving your country's team on the world curling youtube channel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WorldCurlingTV they often have different commentators and it's really neat to get a different perspective on the game. It's in denmark, so games are basically all on overnight, but the full game replays should all be there.

Does anyone watching the worlds know why the South Korean team has black duct tape across the chest of their uniforms? It's clearly covering something, I just have no idea what it could be that they'd have to cover it.

^In their official picture they have a patch for "KB" on the left chest. I googled it and it's a sponsorship from one of the big banks in South Korea. I would guess that the title sponsor of the event "LGT: Liechtenstein Global Trust" (also a bank) wouldn't allow other banking sponsorships there but they only figured it out a few days before the event and didn't have time to get new gear? Latvia's lead is 15 years old and has been curling for 7 years. That's cool.
