Did you know that Nevada does not have a lottery? Bet the Gaming Commission had nothing to do with that.

Less the commission and more Sheldon Adelson. There’s three things that man hates and they’re Internet gambling, Marijuana and the lottery. The man donates 20-30 million dollars every election cycle to the RNC for candidates that support bans on those causes. He’s personally responsible for that ban on online poker a few years ago and had the bill written in such a way that any money in accounts owned by Americans on those sites was forfeit.

He overextended this election cycle though. The day after the midterms, which Adelson watched in the Whitehouse with Trump, a memo was sent to the DoJ reinterpreting the Wire Act that allowed states with legal online gambling to allow cross traffic accounts. If you lived in Delaware or Jersey you could use your Harrah’s account to gamble at the Harrah’s Los Vegas properties online suite. Now that’s illegal and companies are out millions invested in developing the software and architecture. That broke some unwritten rule among casino owners(almost every casino owner serves or has served on the RNC executive board) and now they’re gunning for him.

Also, HBO robocalling all those officials, doesn't that constitute harassment? I mean for the sake of all 'murricans I hope it will be successful and I am sure HBO's legal team triple checked it, but it still seems a little bit weird.

They missed it in the turnaround but Trump has since lied multiple times about the "Tim Apple" thing. First he claimed that he ACTUALLY said "Tim Cook Apple" which is blatantly not true. Later on Twitter he claimed he was referring to Tim Cook and Apple at the same time as Tim/Apple.

It probably falls under one of those things about how government officials having to take calls on government lines and aren't allowed to block people.

I imagine it has a similar level of legality as setting up a robot to mass call a longer list of specific people, perhaps for business purposes, is I think the larger point being made. John's presumably using the exact same loopholes that actual scam companies use to get away with robocalling.

That bit on how laughing at Trump tends to soften how much of a monster he is really hit home for me. He used reality TV to remake his career, and regardless of how incredibly stupid he may actually be, he does know how to be a clown. And many of his supporters see the more monstrous things he gets caught with as more clowning around, not to be taken seriously or on face value. Back in the day with W, it felt like laughing at him had a power to it, because he was a pathetic man trying to put forth a serious image to get power to abuse, but Trump is so not-serious he doesn't even bother to lie well. He constantly puts out easy jokes as chaff for people to get caught up on so they won't bother with the more uncomfortable material.

I also continue to be surprised at how many people are acting like the allegations of Michael Jackson molesting children are new. People have been talking about them for years, when I was in middle school, long after his career had dwindled, it was one of the only things I knew about Michael Jackson.

And in happier news, John Oliver made a brief appearance on his old show, The Bugle if any of you are interested or like puns.

I wondered if it's an example of rich people/corporation privilege, where you can break all the laws you want since they're only penalized with a fine, so you just have to factor paying the fine into your budget. For all the money John blows on this show, I can easily imagine a $20k line item on the budget for "Pay Robocall Fines."

For certain, how much money did he blow on the jockstrap and wax presidents? If he can fit it into the season's budget, there's a good argument to be made for going forward. I imagine this will become more difficult with ATT, however...

Just continues his standard ‘let tv choose his talking points’. 60 Minutes just aired a piece about many of the recent Boeing crashes stemming from failure in the stall correction programs in the auto pilot.

The entire point of the piece was Boeing blaming pilot error and 60 Minutes pointing out that Boeing installed the program update without actually telling the airlines that it exists so the crashes were caused by the pilots frantically trying to overcorrect what appeared to be a computer malfunction.

An okay episode. There's kind of an elephant in the room of a particular elephant that isn't in the room for once, a certain somebody that remarkably wasn't mentioned throughout the whole episode. Public outcry is sometimes the only outlet the people have against certain bad people in power, which is why they refine these outrage responses, before they get bored and turn it on some rando.

That clip they played of that interview was really telling. The interviewer is saying "They worked for you 200 nights a year..." and trails off, and there's a second of silence where Vince looks down for a sec like he might actually be thinking about it, then you can see his face change and he does his mock-crying bit and swipes at the interviewer's notes. It's like he might have had actually feelings for a second, but just shut it all down because gently caress this, gently caress that guy, I'm not gonna feel bad. It's not like he was directly inflamed by something the interviewer said, he had dead silence for a second and took the time to decide the best way to respond was to blow up. Seems like a real, real rear end in a top hat.

Vince once said in an 90s interview, regarding steroid use among wrestlers, that it was a necessity because they were wrestling 300 dates a year. Of course, he conveniently left out how he was the one making them do 300 dates a year.

Vince actually let Mel go (he would deny Mel was ever employed by the WWF which was true in the sense that John Cena was never employed by WWE) because what he told Meltzer and another reporter that Mel had peculiar and unnatural relationships with children but REHIRED him with the promise he not hang around kids.
