John Dyne posted:My power went out while I was pooping. Where is the write up?! Brief recap for @Dyne - Met with the Circle on the night before gathering to see if we can hash out an agreement before the Prince makes a decision. Sheriff oversaw the negotiation with two deputies at his side, so it seems pretty clear the Prince is interested in a accord rather than being forced to rule against a Primogen, or to present an opportunity for the Carthians to talk poo poo. Current terms as I understand them: 1) Flora will not be blood bound, conditioned, etc. She will be allowed to choose her covenant once her normal Accounting (vampire grade school) is finished . 2) Johann will have access to Flora to make sure she's alright and not locked in a room somewhere. 3) I would become a friend of the Circle (but not join fully) and try and participate in their Chorus events. 4) The embrace would be done at a local park that has a protective chaos resonance, that the Circle believes will shield the event from any angry house attacks. 5) We would trade the Whaley House for new haven of equal or better status/hunting grounds. (OOC - we can pitch location ideas ourselves) Circle is to get back to us with the new Haven options, at which point we will up or down the final agreement before hitting the Prince's gathering. Sheriff, Prince and Circle Primogen will likely be miffed if we don't accept, but not guaranteed. I am currently for the deal, as I am doubtful that we will be able to protect the House even if we do prevail with the Prince. Plus, the dangling of info about my dead sire is very tempting. Johann was against since he actually cares for Flora and knows the Circle isn't going to be a pleasant schooling experience, to say the least. Knight was against since he didn't believe we negotiated for enough and wants to be more directly involved in the research (aka licensing for weaponization) and believes he has enough contacts with other Circle members, that we can end run for info on my Sire. Ethan didn't care either way.

The Prince's court convenes tonight, behind the closed doors of the Mesa Grande Casino. The Whaley coterie might not be feeling up to it, with divisions within and an uncertain future without. But sometimes you have to party whether you like it or not, dress your best and dance like it's the last night of your life. Which it may be for Flora Bennett. "Acceptance" is our next chapter, tonight February 26th at 7 PM PST.

Chapter 13: "Acceptance" Saturday, February 25th, 2017 It is the night of the Prince's court, and tempers are running a little high in Whaley House. Johann heads out to feed in advance of the evening's social obligations. Stephen, meanwhile, is offered a ride to the Mesa Grande Casino by his paramour, Duchess of High Art Jessica Wright. He graciously accepts the offer and the two make an appearance arm-in-arm at the court. Everyone piles in the purple Prius and arrives separately. The Prince has decided to lean into the setting by holding a casino night, with tables set up for roulette, blackjack, poker, and craps. Security at the Mesa Grande is noticeably tighter than last time, perhaps due to the werewolf crashing the last event. Sheriff Delgado and his deputies, supplemented by a number of burly ghouls, are ever-present as the guests trickle in before the Prince's traditional midnight greeting. Stephen is dragged/escorted around the grand ballroom by Jessica, introduced to a number of higher ranking Invictus for whom, under normal circumstances, it would profoundly impolite for him to strike up a conversation. Johann spends a few minutes catching up with Tommy Corzo, who is excited about the idea of the neonate support group now that it has a space and is ready to start convening. He knows a few young Kindred that he will make overtures to. Hector has played a few hands of blackjack when Angelica Wright takes the seat next to him. After consecutive hands end in 21, they take that a sign that negotiations should resume. Alone in one of many private alcoves away from the main ballroom, Angelica plays her final card - a literal card, standard size with a chip and mag strip, with the name "Sunset Tower" on it. She goes onto explain that, for reasons not really elaborated on, the Circle of the Crone is in a position to offer the coterie Allen Tremaine's old haven, the penthouse of Sunset Tower, in exchange for Whaley House - along with the domain and hunting rights that go with it. Sunset Tower is a residential high-rise located on the south side of the harbor district, where the big fish is the Duke of the Port, Richard Gutierrez and his brood. The neighborhood is working class, primarily union dockworkers and their families, but with enough bars (of the more roadhouse, hole-in-the-wall flavor) and nightlife to make for effective feeding. Hector tells Angelica that the offer is acceptable to him and he'll try and sell it to the coterie. When Angelica lets Stephen know that his presence is desired with the rest of the coterie, Mr. Knight appears to strike a nerve when making small talk regarding Angelica's businesslike demeanor in contrast to the stereotypical Acolyte. She explains that while her esteemed primogen provides immense spiritual guidance and leadership, it often falls to the second-in-command to handle the more mundane tasks of the nightly grind. The coterie is more-or-less onboard, with Stephen not so much dissenting as feeling that they could get more out of this deal. He pushes the issue, and the coterie agrees to let him try and go for some 11th hour sweeteners, but he is not authorized to even hint that they would walk away from the deal. Angelica is called back in, and both of them resort to all-pretences-dropped haggling. Thanks in part to the assistance of Johann, Stephen manages to squeeze a major conession out of Angelica so that this all can be over and done with. The Circle agrees to provide a red tax in the form of two humans a week (roughly six points of Vitae with no hunting needed). With the coterie in agreement, the Sheriff is told that the two parties have reached an understanding and the Prince does not need to concern himself regarding the matter any further. At the stroke of midnight, the Prince enters the ballroom and takes the floor. After the traditional greeting and exhortation of the bonds of blood, he very publicly calls out Katherine Espinoza (leader of the Sanctum traditionalist sect), Dina Morton (leader of the Sanctum Mormon sect), and Oscar de la Vega (leader of the Mesoamerican sect) for failing to resolve the internal differences of their covenant - reminding them that they will remain frozen out of the Prince's council until his terms are met. Once the Prince cedes the floor and retires to his hearing chambers, both the coterie and the Circle of the Crone leadership are called before him. Stephen outlines the final deal in the presence of the Prince, the Sheriff, and one of the acting harpies - the coterie will cede any claim on Flora Bennett and Whaley House, in exchange for receiving the full domain in the harbor district previously held by Allen Tremaine. The agreement is transcribed by the harpy and signed by all parties (a bit of farce ensues regarding pens, to the annoyance of Angelica Sawyer). Once the deal is signed and witnessed, the Prince ratifies it...and proceeds unprompted to deliver a ruling on the status of Whaley House. It is his will that the domain of Whaley House and Flora Bennett are linked - upon her embrace, Whaley House will pass to Flora free and clear. Until her Accounting is complete, then, it will be held in escrow by her sire. Angelica is noticeably annoyed by this, but Tlahuicole remains placid and thanks the Prince for his wise reasoning. The transaction complete, the Sheriff makes it clear that other petitioners should have their turn. Stephen briefly sidebars with the prince in the matter of the Lancea Sanctum schism, asking if he can be of service in that particular arena. The Prince, visibly annoyed, tells Stephen that he is free to intervene in any way he sees fit, so long as the Traditions are respected. Stephen seems to be buoyed by that response and departs. Johann tries to unwind at the poker table, but finds the seat across from him taken by an unfamiliar Kindred who is clearly spoiling for a (verbal) fight. Johann vaguely recognizes him as the Mehket Scott Feng, one of Richard Gutierrez' brood. Feng immediately starts asking leading questions about Johann's support group, and offers "unsolicited advice" that Johann is playing with fire. What neonates need is not yet more uninformed, ignorant opinions from their fellows, but the wisdom of elders gleaned over hundred of years of the vampiric condition. Johann gives the advice exactly the weight he thinks it deserves - which is to say None At All. The two go round and round for a few minutes while the poker hand plays out - Feng appears to have the upper hand with Aces Over Eights, but Johann pulls a straight flush somehow and that seems to shut up his opponent. Before leaving, Stephen briefly checks in with Dina Morton regarding her use of mercenaries to end the schism. Dina's mood is subdued, as apparently it cost her dearly to secure the funds to hire the Steelhounds. But the price has been paid, and now all that's left to do is pull the trigger. Stephen offers his assistance in this regard, and implies that he (and by extension Dina) as the greenlight from the Prince to proceed however they see fit. Dina replies that what she needs most right now is intel - she wants to wipe out Katherina Espinoza's sect, and has the means to do so, but needs a time and a place where they will be gathered to call in the big guns. Stephen eagerly accepts the opportunity to dig up dirt on someone, and tries to encourage Dina that she is so close to being in control of her covenant. The court breaks up shortly afterward, and the coterie heads back to Whaley House. On the ride home, Hector receives an uncharacteristic phone call from Tlahuicole. The primogen acknowledges that the last few weeks have been trying, but like all hardship it will yield rewards if they have the resolve to see it through to the end. With all obstacles set aside, Tlahuicole sees no reason to delay any further in embracing Flora. It will take a night to make the necessary ritual arrangements in Balboa Park, so Flora's Embrace is scheduled to happen at midnight on Monday, February 27th. Cole asks for Hector's reassurance that Johann won't do anything...rash...while acknowledging her obligation to allow Johann to participate in Flora's transition to unlife. Hector confirms that the plan is acceptable, as the purple Prius heads back to Whaley House for what is probably one of the last times. A few mechanical notes: I found the teamwork rules in the Vampire 2E corebook - each assistant makes the same skill check before the leader does - successes on the assistant check become bonus dice on the leader's check. It doesn't say that there is any ceiling, but I think it should probably be subject to the +5 maximum bonus rule-of-thumb. So potentially Stephen should have had a few more dice to roll in his negotiation with Angelica, but it was unlikely to result in a Dramatic Success. Herr Tog, Stephen gains an extra dot in Covenant Status as a result of his public association with Jessica Wright. Barbed Tongues, Hector has the option to purchase the merit Casual Use (the not-a-Carthian Status) instead of Chorister (Circle of the Crone equivalent) after his exchange with the Carthian primogen. IPlayVideoGames, Johann is effectively setting up what's documented in the Carthian book as an Encounter Group. There is a merit for this, but it requires Empathy 2 which I don't think Johann has (yet). Once he does, he has the option of taking this merit and gaining the Reroll 9 effect on all Empathy checks.

Due to travel, our next chapter won't occur until Tuesday, March 26th - a little over two weeks from now. In the interim, I'd like to handle the downtime that occurs during coterie's transition from Whaley House to Sunset Beach Tower. If you have any specific tasks for the interval (about 6 weeks), please post them in the thread. Each significant task will be resolved as an individual action. I'm also going to post updates about your new domain in the thread and in the roll20 forum thread. The short version is that you guys now control the northern edge of the San Diego harbor district (map to follow) adjacent to downtown, up to but not including the actual cargo terminals themselves (which are the domain of Richard Gutierrez, Duke of the Port). You all now have one dot in the Hunting Grounds Merit, along with your existing dots in Haven, to reflect your authority over the area. By the time we start the next chapter, I hope to have your domain nicely fleshed out with issues and opportunities, and the next story can begin.

1) Secure Sunset Tower Make sure the process goes smoothly. As mentioned, invite the Duke or a representative to join us when we take possession and allow him to take his 'cut' by choosing any one thing in the new haven as a gift. Once that's done, start securing the territory itself. Prime target will be making sure the entire tower is in our hands (dedicate resources 5 to this), not just the penthouse. Secondarily, would like to start scouting the surrounding neighborhood for any points of interest (Sites). 2) Sire Research There was an Acolyte (I want to say Michael) at the embrace who performed a rite that triggered a memory. I would like to start a relationship with that person and discover if they had a relationship with my Sire. Also, I'm thinking I should pull the trigger on Spirit's Touch (Auspex 3) since the penthouse should have something to explore.

Spring Break, Kindred style! I don't care how you do the rolls - Discord dicebot, roll20 engine, just let me know the results and we'll take it from there. Willpower cannot be used on these for obvious reasons. Stephen Knight 1. Intelligence + Investigation w/Bureaucracy - 3 to assist Dina Morton in setting up the hit on the Traditionalist sect. 2. Wits + Investigation - 2 to try and track down Lyle Stone. 3. Presence + Academics to work with Jessica Wright and find out more about Catalina Casino through its art. Hector Andronicus 1. Presence + Politics + 2 to make a good first impression on Richard Gutierrez and his brood. 2. Intelligence + Streetwise w/Borders to get the lay of the land on your new domain. 3. Presence + Socialize + 1 to follow-up with the Circle on the Crone regarding Flora's Embrace ritual. FYI, the person who did all the stuff that triggered your suppressed memories was Cole. Johann 1. Presence + Politics to make a good first impression on Richard Gutierrez and his brood. 2. Presence + Empathy to run the first few encounter group meetings. 3. Manipulation + Occult to try and (re)establish contact with Whisper. Tony 1. Wits + Occult to begin the enlightenment ritual Pascal taught you. We'll roleplay the bulk of it as it's a pretty pivotal moment for Tony, but this will get us started. 2. Presence + Streetwise w/Street Drugs to oversee the arms buy from the Bloody Struggle to the Latin Kings. You've got time for one more thing if you want. Ethan Just let me know what Ethan's agenda is - if it was in the Discord and I missed it my sincere apologies.

Easter Sunday has finally drawn to a close, but not without a fair amount of fallout. The time has come to let wounds close, dust settle, and negotiations ensue from different positions of power and authority. For the coteries (as well as Dina Morton), it starts with a very awkward conversation about the current circumstances. "Take Out The Stake And Hope For The Best" is tonight's chapter, and it starts tonight, Tuesday May 7th, at 7 PM PST.

Always been interested in this series but never really had any experience with it outside of the game years ago, and this campaign looks interesting for someone coming in relatively fresh to the game. The system even looks a bit like one I'm used to(Shadowrun). If you're fine with a newcomer, I generally play facey/spindoctorish characters but I don't really mind playing other roles.
