They should have led the ad campaign with that trailer instead. It looks fine. I won't see it in the theater.

That... is not a good trailer.

Good instinct to use footage from the first films and lean on nostalgia, but the rest of it is just limp, weirdly paced, and poorly edited. I know they're trying to sell emotion and characters more than the big moments, but that did not feel like a trailer for the end to a massive series of blockbusters. It felt like a fan trailer from someone who just graduated from AMVs.

This movie really, really doesn’t need a big trailer because as you said, this is the end of a everything the MCU has been building. This movie is going to break all the loving records and all they really need to do is just put the release date on the screen. Everything else is bonus because no other movie has 10 years and dozens of movies prior to it as advertisement. They’re sticking to the same beats of “the gang is going out for one last ride” since the very first teaser. And now that Capt. Marvel is out, you can add her to the mix or promotional media. This is close to the final trailer (I think we might see one last one) and they’ve yet to show anything more than two glimpses of a fight (the shot of ant-Man and the shot of Steve). The editing is poor because they don’t want to show anything and I’m glad for it. I generally like to go blind to these movies but even after watching this there’s not much to go on as far as the story goes.

There is nothing exciting in that trailer at all. Yeah, it'll do amazing - but gently caress, hype it up because emotion and character moments are not what makes those movies successful.

The Thor moment was lame as well. I thought maybe she'd catch it midair or something. But they just stare at each other.

I don't care if it's big, I just think it should be well-made. Maybe the movie is just too monumental to have a trailer that isn't designed by committee, but they could at least make it the best version of that. If you're going to lean on minimalist nostalgia, lean harder and make all the footage the best moments from the previous films until one final shot from the new film that gets people hype.

It felt like another teaser, it didn't tell us anything that the other teaser didn't already tell us (except that Captain Marvel is also there).

It’s hard not to be impressed by how successful marvel marketing is when people are legitimately saying “no you see the trailer is bad on purpose.”

I liked the Endgame trailer and I'm about as blasé as it gets when it comes to MCU movies

Cranking up on nostalgia was a good choice to generate hype, and not showing too much new content is good practice where it's common to have a lot of the story played out in trailers these days. It's effective at telling you that this is going to be the end of the overarching narrative that's been stretched over a decades worth of storylines, showing several characters who you've seen across how many ever movies.

The black and white with the pop-out red for the old footage was pretty lame though, I will agree. It's like the marketing team felt that audiences are too stupid to differentiate old footage from previous films from the new stuff. Which is entirely possible.

caligulamprey
Jan 23, 2007

It never stops.

I don't even see the point of making a trailer for the new Avengers movie and even lesser a reason to have an opinion on the new Avengers trailer. It's the new Avengers movie, you're gonna see it. And like all Marvel movies that came before it, it's gonna be a solid B- and you're gonna walk out of the theater thinking to yourself "hey, that was pretty good!"
