Not quite a flop. It cleared 100 mil domestic which was triple its reported budget. Still not a runaway hit though.

Earned over $220 million on a $34 million budget, one of the highest rated films of 2017, nominated for 3 Oscars, won a BAFTA and various other awards out of the several dozen it was nominated for. It was wildly successful and made more money than any Edgar Wright film except The Adventures of Tintin, which had a budget 4 times as high.

I think we should call the Avengers.

Wright wrote the screenplay for Tintin together with Moffat, so you can consider it partly his baby.

As I recall, Spacey's presence in Baby Driver was largely ignored, to be honest. The biggest thing with his future acting (other than being cut from House of Cards' final season) was how Ridley Scott actually re-cast him in that movie where he played an old guy with makeup, and like re-shot scenes with Christopher Plummer and edited those in about 2-3 weeks before the film was going to premiere. Which I thought was very proactive and was a very cool thing for Ridley Scott to do, because it represented the proper response - which is that you cannot tolerate or condone this poo poo in any way. It's why I'm glad that the production company shelved the film Bryan Singer was about to begin work on last month. I forget the name of the film but supposedly it wasn't really all that good anyway! But still.

There was a Gore Vidal biopic starring Spacey that was completed and ready for release and Netflix vaulted the whole deal.

I'm taking a course on Victimization and one of my assignments is to do a report on a documentary called "The Hunting Ground." It's about how colleges cover up rape/sexual assault to protect men, fraternities, football, and the schools' image. It came out in 2015. I just watched it, pretty harrowing stuff. It was also distributed by The Weinstein Company.

Much more likely a victim or relative of a victim getting revenge on their abuser than some sort of MeToo vigilante.

Singer being dropped from Red Sonya was more or less announced about a month ago, I guess this just makes it official.

Good, but at the same time my interest in the project was gone when Lerner's first response to the accusations was to double down on having him on. Even the Hollywood Reporter article says the final/seemingly only straw was they weren't able to get domestic distribution with his name attached

Footage has been uncovered of MJ going ring shopping with a young James Safechuck (he showed some of the rings with hesitation during the Leaving Neverland documentary)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3DyN8Jvnz4

quote:

Here is another news report where someone who worked at Zales talks about how the police were called because Michael seemed very nervous and kept adjusting his mustache and was in a disguise, so they thought he was a robber. The whole time the 12 year old boy was talking for the both of them because Michael didn't want to talk because his voice would be recognized. The police let Michael go when they realized who he was and he gave the security guard at Zales an autograph.

That's so loving horrible. If anything, it shows that he had a guilty conscience and knew precisely how awful and wrong what he was doing was - wearing a disguise and appearing incredibly nervous on that particular shopping trip. Jesus.

It also corroborates precisely what Safechuck said happened - not that I feel Safechuck has any of the credibility problems that Wade Robson has. Watching his body language in the film - especially in the sequence with the rings - I don't know how anyone with a shred of genuine empathy could have just shrugged off his account of what happened.

On other thread related stuff loads of bus adverts have appeared in London recently saying Jackson is innocent, apparently paid for by a kickstarter campaign started by a former Big Brother contestant. The ads are now going to be pulled after abuse survivor charities complained to Transport for London.

How no one questioned it before now is beyond me. Its baffling how it got to the point the things were on buses in Central London before anyone wondered if it was inappropriate.

I don’t really buy that. I mean he really was super famous and probably would have to wear a disguise to not get mobbed. And he always seemed nervous.

The way both reports just gloss over ‘shopping with a 12 year old friend’ as if that’s totally a normal thing for adults to do is pretty crazy.

This is a weird story because it’s sounding less and less like coercion and more and more like a mid-20’s women very successfully loving billionaires and movie producers to become rich and famous and really doesn’t seem like the same stuff we’re dealing with in terms of Singer/Weinstein/Jacko. Like, I don’t feel bad for her or like she was really a victim in any of this. This isn’t Weinstein going “gently caress me or I’ll kill your career” this is Kirk going “how big of a star will I be if I let you gently caress me” and going forward we’re really gonna have to highlight those differences for the conversation to continue.

Yeah, but the best she can get out of it is a bunch of obscure movies that don't even register at any level when released, or minor, blind-and-you'll-miss-it roles in major films like an uncredited role in a Liam Neeson action vehicle. Oh, and that OJ movie that will, in all likelihood, make just about every distributor go "That's a no from us, thanks. Fuckin' yikes," assuming it even gets finished.

Fair enough that she'd be a bit grumpy, I suppose.

From what I've heard the world of the super-rich and what goes on on their yachts is a whole lot of grimness.

One of my friends used to crew on yachts around the Mediterranean in the 90s - when being interviewed for one job she was told "You're attractive enough to be allowed to serve breakfast, no one wants to look at ugly first thing." Maintaining composure while the person your serving is getting a blowjob was another important part of the job.
She was raped by another crew member while in port and rather than do anything to help her deal with the trauma the boat she was working on ended her contract due to "illness" and just abandoned her there. Seems the rich are scum wherever you find them.

Unlike everything else in that post, this doesn't seem particularly abhorrent. As long as it's legal, consensual sex going on (a big "if", obviously), yeah, don't ruin the moment. You ain't gonna get a job shooting porno movies if you giggle every time you see a penis either.

I mean, people don't need to be exposed to that non-consensually, but I feel like saying, "yeah you're gonna see people loving in this job, do you still want it?" covers that.
