If Robson and Safechuk are lying, then give them the drat Oscar because that is the most authentic performance I've ever seen, also give Oscars to their immediate family who are also interviewed. They're clearly not lying though. I don't understand how someone can watch both parts of this doc and still express doubt. There is no air-tight, unequivocal, solid proof, no. But, the doc still presents a case that is incredibly hard to argue against. -Firstly, the aforementioned performance thing. Both Robson and Safechuk exhibit distress throughout that does not seem faked, not only that, but their families are also interviewed, and their distress is also plain to see. Is there a chance that both Robson and Safechuk are talented actors? Maybe. But their entire families as well? The raw emotion on display and the palpable visible trauma I don't think can be mere performance from non-actors, no way. -There are numerous bits of archival footage of the boys with Jackson, as well as photos, and weird loving fax messages that would be more than enough to raise a thousand red flags even if there was no whisper of any abuse. -The narrative the doc presents makes some of the people interviewed (the parents, namely), look very, very bad indeed. If this was just a con for money, I don't why someone would agree to have themselves raked over the coals so thoroughly. -The inconsistency in regards to both Robson's and Safechuk's previous statements are, I feel, adequately explained within the film.

I would be very surprised if Marvel had dropped the ball on contracting him to their full line of movies. But like even if everyone was contracted and not interested in trying to break those contracts you still don't want a whole bunch of key people pissed off and holding a grudge, especially come press time when everyone's asking them about the drama around the film's production.

Don Cheedle was signed to a 9 movie deal when he took over for Terrence Howard in Iron Man 2, I'm certain there were a couple more films left on Batista's contract. But there's reasons to try and keep actors happy even if they have a legal obligation to be in your movie.

Yeah, Marvel's MO once the MCU got rolling seemed to be to lock people into long multi film deals to avoid that Howard/Cheadle situation happening again. Which is why I'd be surprised if they didn't have Batista signed up for 3 GotG movies along with the rest of the cast. But that doesn't mean you want one of your stars taking part in production and promotion under duress. Especially about a publicly known matter that you've already had second thoughts about. I doubt Batista is responsible for this. But he almost certainly was a major factor into the bigger picture of outspoken critics amongst the cast and crew of GotG and the MCU and from the fanbase and public at large. His last statement was that as long as they used Gunn's script, he would stay on for the extent of his contract and quit. The entire cast signed a petition demanding his return as well, so even if filming went ahead with another director there would have been a very sour mood in the air and Bautista especially would have likely continued to be open about his bitterness during the marketing phase; he seems very much like a guy who won't bother lying to the public to make it seem like things are all right if he feels that an injustice has been done. The release would have been swirling with controversy and reviewers comparing the new director's style to the series creator. It would have been tainted. It took a while to get around to it, but Disney made the move that would satisfy the most important people for their movie to go forward smoothly.

Yeah, in the best case scenario of conflict they would have made the film under duress and then had a giant cloud over the entire promotional push where either they refused to let media talk to the cast and crew or they'd have to deal with them all getting questioned about Gunn, their contracts, and their future in the MCU. Its the exact opposite of what Marvel wants around their films. Hiring Gunn back means you eat a little poo poo but everyone important stays happy and the only drama comes from assholes who weren't acting in good faith in the first place.
