https://twitter.com/Cythrin/status/1107070208047345665?s=09 I know this weapon is supposed to be "bad" but moving like greased lightning and covering everything you see in ink is so much loving fun. Also is it just me or is there like nobody on team knight? I normally get maybe a quarter of my matches as mirrors but this splatfest I've had more than half my games be mirror matches.

It feels like very few people on Knight. Usually when I pick the less popular side, I still get mirror matches from time to time. This time I had straight up no mirror matches whatsoever.

Are the less-popular team's points weighted more in some way? Edit: wait the disparity is probably ironed out by the more popular team ending up in more infighting matches. I mean the only way to get points is to actually fight against the opposite team, right? Jonas Albrecht posted:Yes. Barbarian vs Ninja had a whopping 23% to 77% vote split. Wrist Watch posted:https://twitter.com/Cythrin/status/1107070208047345665?s=09 Sploosh can be good. I've played competitive with a friend for a long time and nothing clicked with her in Splatoon 2 quite like Sploosh. She plays other weapons too, but she would always get guff from certain people for pulling out Sploosh, no matter how well she did with it. She went to G6 and when her team got streamed for a match, a bunch of people on Twitch were gushing over how many splats the Sploosh player was coming up with every game. Part of what makes Splatoon 2 wonderful is that it's an exceptionally balanced game. Some things definitely stand out as stronger (sometimes this is synonymous with cheap bullshit) than others, but they've consistently buffed struggling weapons throughout the lifespan of the game and as a result everything feels usable.

I don't know why anyone would consider the sploosh weak, it's an effective close range specialist with a special weapon that is extremely good within the operating range of the main and a sub weapon that allows the user to close distance very quickly. It's good at exactly one thing but it's very good at that thing.

Because while its kit is really well-suited to facilitate momentum and killing potential, that same kit often prevents it from contributing to objective in ranked modes or dealing with any sort of long-range threat. There's obviously work-arounds to most of those scenarios, but it definitely can become an uphill battle really quickly. The addendum to everything being usable is that a lot of things are still set up to fail in certain team compositions. I kind of took that for granted since in competitive you build teams around covering those blindspots and that it's kind of a lovely roll of the dice in random matchmaking.

Over specialization is usually bad for a weapon in games like this. Why do something super great when you can be merely great at it and less helpless in other situations. I've really taken a shine to the tenta brella. Which is another weapon that really leans into it's role and isn't popular for it. Probably because I'm in scrub tier but people don't know what to do about it and makes an overwhelming nuisance of itself.

I love Brellas and good on you on attempting the tenta brella. I was always such a poor shot with it, and you need to land your hits with it to work since the firing rate is so slow. Brellas are such a cool concept for a weapon. I'm pretty much turfing exclusively with the Undercover Brella variants. Sorella Undercover is probably my favorite still but I got pretty attached to Kensa UCB for a while there. The OG UCB is surprisingly good too. I never used it much but now that Splashdown is inking a whole lot more it's really grown. Mines aren't amazing but they're very good in corridors.

As much as I love the tri-slosher and the UC Brellas, I'll admit that statistically I'm much better with the Splattershot Jr and the N-Zap's. But shooters don't feel as fun to me. I tend to splattershot jr when I'm on the phone with someone since it's just run and gun. The other two require more thought I find.

It's good at exactly one thing but it's very good at that thing. Normal Sploosh can definitely work well as long as you're aware of its limitations and you and your team play around them. It's basically a close combat kit, with Curling bombs to help with its mobility, and Splashdown as another tool to help with close quarter combat. Now Neo Sploosh on the other hand is one of the few kits in this game I would call actively terrible (The other is the regular Goo Tuber.) All it can do is spam Tenta Missiles and... little else. When there are other weapons that are capable of doing that, though slightly slower at doing so. And doesn't have the issues the main weapon does. 100YrsofAttitude posted:I'm just really bad at placing them. I found myself really enjoying the foil squeezer this fest. Seems like a nozzlenose and a splattershot jr had a child? I'm not sure how to use bubbles but they seemed okay with the shifty station turf zones.

Tap-firing the Squeezer can be scarily effective, in that mode it has the best range of any shooter other than the Jet Squelcher and is a three-hit kill to the latter‘s four. Kinda wears your finger out after a while though.

My unpopular Splatoon opinion is that the Squeezers are the best weapon in the game, but the high skill floor prevents it from reaching its potential most of the time. My aim is bad enough without my finger cramping and/or shaking the controller. I love the foil so much though. I also am starting to really get into the Tenta Brella as well, but IMO you have to learn to always deploy the shield and treat it as a moving splash wall, always keeping the enemy on the other side to give you time to get the kill. On maps with narrow passageways the brella / bubble combo is a frigging cheat code on clam blitz. You’re helpless to stop a push in that situation. I finally got to Rank X in CB using Tenta Brella when Arowana and Triggerfish were in rotation. I’m not nearly skilled enough to use TB on more open spaces yet though. It’s very map-dependent for me.
